News is slowly filtering through various news outlets that Jonas Christiansen, vocalist of Norwegian black metal band Slavia, was found dead last week in his apartment. He had been suffering from colon cancer.

I’m really not all that familiar with Slavia, but it seems they are fairly well respected, and I figured some of you guys might know of them. Sorry to be the bearer of ill news.

Sadly, his death on Thursday 17th came the day before a fundraising benefit concert organised to raise funds for his treatment. ‘Algir – Støttekonsert For Jonas R. Christiansen’ went ahead instead as a memorial to Jonas, including a few words from his father.

Included was a set from Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone, Sigurd ‘Satyr’ Wongraven and Kjetil-Vidar ‘Frost’ Haraldstad from Satyricon, and Ulvhedin Høst from Taake, who teamed up to play a set of Darkthrone songs. Someone in attendance filmed parts of the set which you can find here.

A fitting tribute for Jonas I hope. Sorry for the triple bummer today guys.
