It seems the members of Pain of Salvation are trying their absolute hardest to break my heart. With the announcement of  Johan Hallgren’s departure, and the Two Deaths – the term used to describe the departure of Kristoffer Gildenlöw, and Johan Langell from the band in 2005 and 2007 respectively – Fredrik and Daniel were the last two long time band members still active, and now in a less than ceremonial announcement, Daniel says that this year will mark the end of Fredrik’s tenure with the band.

All that we’ve gotten is a bit of an off hand comment in his latest message to the fans on Facebook.

“That odd feeling in our stomachs will be even more prominent this time around, since this tour marks the farewell of both Johan and Fredrik.”

Not only is that the first mention of this, it’s all that was mentioned in the fan message. I don’t know what to make of it, but it’s clear that Pain of Salvation are now one of ‘those’ bands – where only the founder is left because it’s ‘his’ band. Kind of like what Coheed and Cambria is becoming.

I’m more than a bit upset over this, but I’m sure there’s a reason for it, and I can’t fault anyone for wanting to move on with their life. In the immortal words of Kurt Vonnegut Jr., “so it goes”.

You can read the full announcement at Pain of Salvation’s official Facebook page. The band are currently on tour in Europe with Opeth; dates after the jump.
