System Of A Down Return With Edmonton Show; Play Tweny Nine Songs

I feel this is an important event to cover, because upon consulting our crystal ball, the number of hits we get from the search term “System of a Down” far outstrips anything else – and we’ve probably only covered them once, twice maximum.

That said, it ain’t about the views: their recent comeback show in Edmonton, Alberta, was an impressive feat of longevity (especially for their first show in five years), in that they played no fewer than twenty-nine songs. Twenty nine. That’s only just more twinkies than your mom can fit in her mouth in one go. Impressive.

This got me thinking about how long the show might have lasted in all, based on the track times of the set list (as they are on the albums) which are:

– “Prison Song” – 3:20
– “B.Y.O.B.” – 4:14
– “Know” – 2:56
– “Needles” – 3:12
– “Deer Dance” – 2:54
– “Attack” – 3:05
– “Radio/Video” 4:08
– “Hypnotize” – 3:08
– “Question!” – 3:19
– “Suggestions” 2:43
– “Psycho” – 3:45
– “Chop Suey!” – 3:31
– “Lonely Day” – ?
– “Soldier Side – Intro” – 1:03
– “Soldier Side” – 3:39
– “Kill Rock ‘n Roll” 2:27
– “Lost in Hollywood” 5:19
– “Forest” – 3:59
– “Science” – 2:42
– “Holy Mountains” – 5:27
– “Aerials” – 6:09
– “Tentative” – 3:35
– “Cigaro” – 2:11
– “Suite-Pee” – 2:31
– “War?” – ?
– “Toxicity” – 3:38
– “P.L.U.C.K.” – ?
– “Sartarabad” – ?
– “Sugar” – 2:33

So how long is that?

Well, taking into account the average song length and applying that to the few that I don’t have any information on, it works out as about nintey two minutes. Also taking into account me being wrong either way, banter and breaks between songs, and the inevitable wait for the encore, you’re looking at close to two solid hours of performance. For anyone that’s a long time, but to come right back into it swinging like a motherfucker – good on ’em I say. I was never hugely into SOAD, but I always liked a few of their songs.

Some nice attendees also filmed a shit load of the songs, and being the nice man I am, I’ve gone and stolen them from The PRP to put up here. Thanks, wookubus!
