I told you Batillus were awesome! Finally, their debut album Furnace is here and they’ve taken the route of offering it as a ‘Name Your Price’ download through Bandcamp. I’ve briefly listened through a couple of the tracks and they most definitely don’t disappoint; the crushing doom is still there but new vocalist Fade Kainer adds another layer of claustrophobic atmosphere to it. If you’re interested, you can pick up the album here and peruse the other releases from their record label Seventh Rule here.
It’s interesting to see more and more bands using this format despite it’s counter-intuitive nature. Are Batillus/Seventh Rule Recordings gambling that this gets the record out to more people easily, or is it that fewer and fewer people will buy records from less established acts? Some of my favourite records I bought just on a whim just because I liked the album artwork or something superficial like that.
