Anyone who has a basic knowledge of black metal can tell you that Ulver are practically legendary, releasing their classic Bergtatt – Et eeventyr i 5 capitler back in 1995. Since then, the band has explored a more dark electronic sound, among other experimental shifts, including a foray into chamber music. Ulver have never been afraid to do what they wanted to do musically, and I think that this makes them ‘trver’ than any elitist bands clinging to some stiff and rigid ideal of what black metal musicians should be.

With every release, they seem to turn heads, and their upcoming album Wars of the Roses is no different. Just check out their new song, “February MMX” below.

Amazing stuff—dark, beautiful, and haunting. If you haven’t gotten into Ulver yet, their new album Wars of the Roses looks like it’ll be the most accessible music they’ve written yet, so it’ll be your best bet. You’ll be able to get it on Kscope Records in April.
