Yeah, that was my first thought, but I’m glad I took a second look at this particular news item. Why?

Fitting right in with the theme of Prog-Metal March, T.R.A.M. are a prog band featuring the likes of Adrian Terrazas of The Mars Volta on saxophone, flute, bass clarinet and percussion, Eric Moore of Suicidal Tendencies on drums, and probably the biggest draw for you guys, Javier Reyes and Tosin Abasi of Animals As Leaders on guitars. That’s right; the coolest guy in prog metal has a side project!

Now, here’s the thing. I haven’t actually heard any of their stuff yet, so I don’t know if they’re any good, but rest assured we’ll be hitting up Sumerian, to whom they’ve just signed, for a promo as soon as possible, because this shit sounds intriguing. Their debut Lingua Franca is set for a May release.

Abasi is about a known quality as it gets when it comes to awesome, and I was a big Volta fan back in the days before they got all acoustic and too experimental. Can’t have been Terrazas’s fault anyway, and the dude seems solid. He had this little nugget to say, however:

“I never know how people will respond to our music, I just never know! My goal is to try to instill a strong feeling or energy in people and I feel that collectively we achieved this goal tenfold with this new project. We all have a great enthusiasm and desire to perform this material live and see this band further develop. We look forward to hearing what you all think of it.”

So we can expect live shows! Sweet! Anyhow, more when we know anything!
