As sad as this might be, this should be of no surprise to anyone. A 28 year old doesn’t die of natural causes that aren’t immediately visible during autopsy. Naturally, you’ll die when you take a bunch of drugs, but that doesn’t count as “natural causes”. The toxicology reports are in, and The Rolling Stone has the information:
Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan died on December 28, 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol, Orange County Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal told Rolling Stone. Toxicology reports indicate that Sullivan suffered “acute polydrug intoxication due to combined effects of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Diazepam/Nordiazepam and ethanol.”
So, he took all of those pills and alcohol, which any drug user should know not to mix already, but judgment is impaired, so it’s easy to forget or care. Here’s the statement from the band’s management.
“To all of us who loved Jimmy, the only thing relevant about December 28 is that is the night we lost, too soon, a son, brother, friend and one of the most talented artists in the world,” the band’s manager Larry Jacobson tells Rolling Stone. “Every day, his parents and sisters, and his brothers in Avenged Sevenfold smile at the many memories they have of Jimmy and his fans around the world revel in the musical legacy he left them.”
I get what they’re trying to say, but I don’t like how it says that “the only thing relevant” is the fact that he died. No, this is very relevant, and this should call attention to the dangers of using these types of drugs recreationally. These drugs serve their purpose, and they aren’t for partying. If there is anyone else in Avenged Sevenfold using these drugs (which is likely), this should serve as a wake up call for them to put that shit down.
With that said, it’s always sad when someone dies young, and he will be missed by many. I’m sure he’s resting in peace. With all those downers, it’s hard not to.
