Brent A Petrie may not be a name you know, but it should. An incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist, he writes and records all of his music alone. This, his first release under Monolithic Records, is a showcase in DIY aesthetic and fantastic songwriting. It takes a lot to make waves in the instrumental music genre these days, as crowded as it is, but this album seems poised to do just that.

Walk as Chaos

If not, here’s your daily Walk As Chaos (formerly Enditol) fill!

It’s likely that you’re reading this less than twenty-four hours after I’ve ever discovered this band, and in that small amount of time I’ve managed to get pretty hyped about Walk As Chaos. Just going off the single (below), it sounds like these guys are an awesome breath of fresh air from the endless sea of garbage that inundates the scene now. It’s low-tuned progressive-type metal (I guess? Genres elude me) that relies on vocal hooks so much as it does infectious riffing to keep the song structure constantly fresh and interesting. Oh, and from what I gather, the lyrics are actually coherently thought out and well written. Kudos! To top off that already glorious combination, the video looks like they’ve taken notes on Tool‘s ‘Sober‘ video from 2005 and beefed it up exponentially.

Go ahead and keep walking on with Walk As Chaos on their Facebook page.

Whilst we like to think we have all the best ideas, we do like to give credit where credit’s due – and when our bro in metal Quigs from The Number of the Blog told me about this idea, I was pretty excited.

The concept was this: once a month he’ll have four different musicians ‘sitting down’ over Skype to discuss various issues to do with music. Rather than the old blogcasts that tended to get lengthy and we weren’t even sure anyone was listening to them, this has focus, meaning, and a lot of potential.

The first episode was recorded last weekend, and after many mind-boggling hours editing, is now available for your listening pleasure.

The first batch features a couple of Heavy Blog favourites in Justin Gosnell of Vestascension and Steven Henningsgard of Iron Thrones, as well as Sacha Laskow of Enditol, Divinity and Walk As Chaos, and the ever hilarious Brent Petrie, a solo musician with a funny remark for everything.

You can get the inaugural episode from TNOTB right here, and make sure to leave any comments or potential questions for the next batch in their comments section!
