I damn well needed an excuse to post this ridiculous music video accompanied by some brutal slams!
I have to be honest, if Victory are going to be putting out great videos like this for good bands then I don’t mind them dipping their toes in the world of extreme metal. But more to the point, “Media Consumption” sounds pretty sick and new vocalist Johnathan Huber (ex-I Declare War) fits their sound perfectly. Looks like I’ll be checking out Awaken To The Suffering very soon!
Alternatively; Design The Skyline change their sound, and it still fucking sucks.
In case you didn’t catch it, my enthusiasm was sarcastic. We all know Victory Records’s ‘are you fucking kidding me’ signing, Design The Skyline (unfortunately), but in case you don’t, here’s the link back from when I “broke the news”. You’re welcome.
Hawhaw.
Anyway, the song that they debuted with was utterly terrible, and now they’ve come up with another song:
Well, in the name of trying to be positive, it’s not as horrible as their previous song. The production is awful, the vocals are barely audible (thank god), and the song is just bland – but it’s better than their previous song. Still, I don’t get what Victory Records are trying to do here. Who listens to this stuff?
As my compatriot Gunnar said, “they’ve just sold out faster than anyone I’ve ever known. This is one of the biggest A Skylit Drive imitations I’ve ever heard.” Hmm. Indeed.
Whatever the fuck it’s called will be out far sooner than any court order should allow; dogs will howl; mothers will miscarry. God might even bring about judgement day early. Who knows?

When you call your label debut album If You Don’t Have Anything Nice To Say, it’s probably safe to say you’re not expecting a deluge of complimentary feedback from the music world. Yet, when Victory Records signed The Bunny The Bear – a band whose woefully apparent primary gimmick is the titular facemasks of the vocalists – in the wake of the god-awful Design The Skyline, you had to wonder if the old adage of ‘any press is good press’ was poised to line the pockets of the label with ill-gotten money from kids who don’t know any better, rather than endeavouring to expose the world to progressive and intelligent music.
You’ll have gathered by now that I’ve not come into this review with high hopes.
As in, I wonder how long it will be before Victory learns that the vast majority of the bands they sign are crap. Gone are the golden days of Snapcase, Integrity, and Between the Buried and Me. Today is the day of atrocious bands like Design the Skyline, Emmure, Dr. Acula, and the band this post is about: The Bunny The Bear.
This band is contemptible. I’ve always never liked gimmicks, and the fact that their gimmick is in their name and masks irritates me in places nobody should be irritated. Also, the singer has the worst vibrato ever, their harsh vocalist has very poor yells, and the music is trashy, overused techno-crab rock. They basically are a pop band with harsh vocals. You know a band is immature when one of their songs is titled “It’s a Long Way From the Esophagus to the Ovaries”. Lovely. The video below proves all the aforementioned.
If you’re into heavier music and you’ve been, I don’t know, ALIVE the past two days, you’ve no doubt heard the news of Victory Records signing the most abhorrent aural abortion ever heard this side of Brokencyde, Design The Skyline. Just to make sure everyone’s on the same page here, you can give their video a brief gander below.
Terrible, right? Apparently everyone else and their mother thought so too. If you thought the backlash against Attack Attack a year or two back was bad, sweet Jesus. The band’s facebook page is a playground of trolls, and rightfully so; no one with any sort of decent musical taste could find something worthwhile here, and with Victory Records—the same label called home by respectable artists like Wretched, Within The Ruins, and at one time, Between the Buried and Me—claiming to be “proud” to announce their latest signing to be the nadir of terrible MySpace-core that barely hit what someone could call “a peak” in 2008 just shows that the only thing that Victory cares about is exploitation for monetary gain. I mean, they’re a business after all, and it is to be expected, but the fact that Victory signed this band goes to show that they expected people to enjoy this music. That sounds like an insult to me.
But there’s a silver lining to this shitstorm: Victory Records seems to be in a bit of a nervous panic. We received an email last night from an anonymous tipster that seems pretty credible:
[Two days ago], Victory Records e-mail Rob of Precision Studio offering him $8000 to get Design the Skyline in the studio [last night] and get an entire full length album recorded, mixed and mastered by June of this year. Why? To “prove the haters wrong”, in a few words. They wanted to disprove the speculation that DTS is complete and utter crap by releasing a full length album for them ASAP. Because of this hasty gesture, Rob was forced to push 3-4 bands back an entire month on their guaranteed time slots, but did offer an exchange of discounted recordings, at least to some. I wouldn’t blame Rob whatsoever, he was put in a bad situation, but money is money and money talks.
Apparently Victory Records have signed something… something that’s supposed to be a band(?) called Design The Skyline. Whilst I appreciate Victory for having Within the Ruins and Wretched on their books, as well as Between The Buried and Me back in the day, with their latest abysmal signings I’ve started to lose some faith in them.
What happened, Victory? What happened to signing bands like Within the Ruins, Wretched, and BTBAM (who have since moved)? No, you get this abomination. Why? WHY?!
Sorry if I have ruined your day. There are sure to be some positive posts coming up today, so cheer the fuck up. There you go.
So apparently Within the Ruins are making an EP. I did not know this, and now that I do know this, this is awesome. Release date TBA, but I’m excited. It definitely sounds like WTR, which is not a bad thing at all.
Westfield, Massachusetts band Within The Ruins have just uploaded a new song to their MySpace. The song is off their upcoming album Invade, and it’s pretty freaking awesome. Check it out!
Now you can own, in my opinion, the greatest album to come out last year in colored vinyl format. Oh boy!
The clear pink double vinyl of Between The Buried and Me‘s The Great Misdirect is a Victory Records exclusive limited to 200 copies, so if you’re a fan of the band, that’s the one you need to get, and fast. I ordered mine last night. So there’s AT LEAST 199 left, but I can’t be the only one who nabbed one, so get one if they’re still there. They’re the same price as the clear orange double vinyl (around $20), but the orange isn’t as limited, so by extension it isn’t as cool. But it fits the artwork of the album better.
The album is currently on pre-order. They start shipping March 16th.
In similar news, Victory Records is also releasing the newest ManureEmmure and Darkest Hour albums on vinyl. You can find them here, due out on the same day.
