Tag Archive: Veil of Maya

Further details about the new Veil of Maya record have come to light as Amazon has updated the information for Eclipse, featuring tracklist, length, as well as offering 30-second samples of each track. The new record will clock in at a whole whopping 28 minutes! Apparently Veil of Maya couldn’t make in 10 tracks on a full record last what Between the Buried and Me did on three for an EP. Someone needs to start making rules about what constitutes and album or an EP. They should cut albums off at about 35 minutes; any lower and you’re obligated to mark it as an EP or a mini-album. It’s just getting silly!

Here’s the tracklist:

01. 20/200
02. Divide Paths
03. Punisher
04. Winter Is Coming Soon
05. The Glass Slide
06. Enter My Dreams
07. Numerical Scheme
08. Vicious Circles
09. Eclipse
10. With Passion And Power

At least the samples sound promising! While it may be their shortest record yet, it might end up being their best. Eclipse is due out February 28th on Sumerian Records. After the jump, give their new track ‘Vicious Circles‘ a stream.

Yeah, we know the lineup is different now, but this is the latest promo. Use your imagination!

This year’s Summer Slaughter Tour is looking like the biggest one yet, with Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me being the ticket’s highest selling points. Each week, Summer Slaughter will be announcing a new addition to the lineup until the whole bill is announced. Pretty smooth plan, as I’ll be mentioning them at least once a week until we get the dates. Hurray, marketing!

This week, we can check off another band that is confirmed for the trek from the rumored lineup that we reported a few weeks ago; The Faceless will be high on the bill. Expected, and yet still completely exciting!

Next week: Veil of Maya? Hate Eternal? Exhumed? A wildcard!? We’ll find out next week!

CALLED IT!

So Summer Slaughter’s lineup rumors are looking like they’re true. This year’s trek will include headliner Cannibal Corpse with special guests Between the Buried and Me. If you aren’t excited, you need to check your pulse. These two bands bring in a wide spectrum of metal fans, which will no doubt be filled in nicely with the diverse rumored lineup of The Faceless, Job For A Cowboy, Veil of Maya, Exhumed, and Hate Eternal. There should be something for everyone, and as long as some unwanted lame metalcore or deathcore band slips in, this will likely be the best Summer Slaughter lineup yet.

I’m stoked on this. The rest of the lineup will be slowly churned out each Sunday, so keep up with Summer Slaughter on Facebook for up-to-date info.

Every now and then a band comes along that just does things right. They may not be completely groundbreaking, but they have just about mastered their craft. For me, Betraying the Martyrs did deathcore the right way. In that same vein, Birmingham, Alabama’s Erra is a prime example of how modern metalcore should sound. They hit all the sweet spots along the way, playing music that sounds like combination of Veil of Maya and Periphery, clean vocals included.

Progressive/technical deathcore pioneers Veil of Maya are preparing to release a new album called Eclipse soon, and I caught up with them at a show to ask them a few questions. I was able to talk to singer Brandon and guitarist Marc, and we chatted a bit about stuff, including their new album and the band’s writing process.

Hi, this is Noyan from Heavy Blog Is Heavy. So, you guys have a new album coming up…

Brandon Butler: Yeah, it’s called Eclipse, it comes out February 28th.

What can you tell us about the new album? [Marc walks in] Is it like a continuation of your sound, or something different, or maybe going back?

Marc Okubo: I would say it definitely sounds like us, but we’ve gotten better. Our playing’s improved, I like the production on it a lot. We added more elements like more synths and… it’s like more over the top sounding.

BB: Yeah.

So the eagerly anticipated new Veil of Maya single ‘Vicious Circles‘ from their forthcoming album Eclipse is now available on iTunes. How does it stack up? It could be some of Veil of Maya’s most accessible work yet, with less chugging and plenty of synth layers and melodic guitar work. It changes things up a bit, which is what I’ve been hoping for. The influence that Misha had on the songwriting and production is pretty noticeable, as well! Some long-time fans of Veil of Maya might not dig it so much, but I can get into this. You can stream the song below.

All in all, you can count me excited for the new VoM. It won’t be long until we get to hear more! Eclipse is due out February 28th on Sumerian Records. Once again, be sure to check back this Friday when we post our interview!

Yesterday, I pointed out that there was a strong possibility that Cannibal Corpse and Between the Buried and Me were to headline this year’s iteration of The Summer Slaughter Tour. Since then, I’ve heard that the pairing is indeed true, as well as a handful of other bigger names being announced for the bill.

The Faceless, Job For A Cowboy, Veil of Maya, and Hate Eternal are also rumored to be a part of what is promised to be the biggest Summer Slaughter tour ever. EDIT: Metalsucks pointed out that Exhumed may be a part of the tour as well.

I mean, I’m pretty much 90% convinced that this is fact based on all the evidence provided. All of these bands are signed to either Metal Blade and Sumerian, two of the larger stakeholders in the tour. On top of that, most of the bands have albums due out by the time summer hits. I’d be shocked if this wasn’t at least mostly right. Place your bets in the comments section below.

When the lineup is officially announced, we’ll fill you in. This is shaping up to be a tour not to be missed.

Alright, so the news of the new Veil of Maya album details have been known for the better part of a week now, but I was holding out on a new song release or a large enough album art to post about it. Gotta be efficient, right!?

Veil of Maya’s forthcoming album Eclipse, which is the band’s third Sumerian release and was produced by Periphery‘s Misha Mansoor, has recently been announced with a release date of February 28th. Above, you can check out the album’s teaser, which features the intro track. The band’s new single will be available on iTunes starting tomorrow, January 17th. Album pre-orders are available at this location.

Also, be sure to keep an eye out for our interview with Marc and Brandon of Veil of Maya later this week!

I’m not all too keen on this whole straightforward metalcore thing that’s going on now where it’s all Christian bands that sound pretty much exactly like August Burns Red. It’s not that I particularly hate any of it, but it doesn’t necessarily speak to me most of the time. I like some ABR and Oh, Sleeper, but I could live without bands like Texas in July and Miss May I. I, The Breather are sort of in between. I sort of enjoy them while they’re playing, but I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to listen to them. Just my two cents, I guess.

I, The Breather are streaming a new song called ‘Bruised & Broken,‘ above. It’s completely inoffensive metalcore for fans of pretty much any other band I listed above. I know a lot of people out there are excited about their new record, but I’m more fixated on the new Veil of Maya artwork they slipped into the video still.

I, The Breather’s upcoming record Truth and Purpose is due out February 28th on Sumerian Records. You know what also comes out that day on Sumerian? The new Veil of Maya album Eclipse and the debut T.R.A.M. record. There’s something for everyone that day!

As any regular reader of this piece of webspace knows, I live near the eastern tip of Kentucky, near the border of West Virginia. This geological environment doesn’t typically attract metal acts, so I have to drive four hours in any direction to see a decent metal show. So imagine my surprise when I drove out to Louisville, KY for Born of OsirisThe Discovery Tour to end up in a shithole worse than my own home town. I’m talking destroyed trailer parks, several shady porn stores, bars, and strip joints PER STREET, and where the local metal venue doubles as a flea market, where not hours before the show, there was used furniture lined up in front of the stage where I was to be standing soon enough.

This was literally a block away from the venue.

It was a charming place, and my fear of getting mugged was only second to how nauseated I still get prior to interviewing bands. I spent the hours leading up to showtime with two friends of mine, browsing what could have been bootleg DVDs, getting sick at White Castle (where we awkwardly shared our meal with a sheepish homeless man, who was rudely yelled at by an employee), and anxiously awaiting the arrival of French deathcore band Betraying the Martyrs, where I was to interview bassist Valentin Hauser (coming soon!). I’ve got to say, Betraying the Martyrs are one of the most humble and friendly bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Their live show decimates, but a little more on that later on.

Now, I wasn’t given one of those neat and coveted laminated passes or anything, but since I was in the venue before any of the band members and I was seen interviewing Valentin earlier, I just hung out in and around the backstage area and was never asked to leave. I meandered about, bouncing between watching Born of Osiris soundcheck to befriending the young local opening act of the evening, deathcore band Internal Affliction, who were out back anxiously gathering their equipment. Being on the inside really gave me a first hand look at what goes into production, and it’s not an easy task. This evening was to be riddled with technical difficulties, which was foreshadowed by Logic crashing on BoO’s Mac during soundcheck. I overheard a member of Carnifex (his name and position escapes me) chuckle, “this should be interesting.”
