Tag Archive: The Chariot

The Chariot‘s last video, for the track “David de la Hoz,” was so fantastically original and well executed that any follow up was going to be hard to top. Unfortunately, they went their usual route of live footage with the studio recording over the top, for Long Live‘s first track, “Evan Perks” – not to say that this is bad in any way, but it’s old hat now. They are indeed awesome live, but even this doesn’t quite capture it I don’t think.

The footage is from shows on their most recent Australian run. From this alone it looks fairly fun, but when you place it next to the video where they got shut down for knocking over some fucking pears, and subsequently played the rest of the show at some dude’s house, partially on his roof, well, you’re in a different league really aren’t you?

It took them long enough, but the Scream The Prayer Tour 2011 dates have finally been announced. The tour features Norma Jean, Sleeping Giant, The Chariot, War Of Ages, Close Your Eyes, Texas In July, I The Breather, The Great Commission, As Hell Retreats, and Sovereign Strength. This package is a mixed bag for sure; you can check out what I think of the lineup in detail if you haven’t already. The tour is intersecting with Cornerstone Festival soon after it begins, and later on with The All Stars Tour. All I have to say is that you’ll steer clear of the dates with The All Star Tour if you know what’s good for you. Tour dates after the jump:

Now THAT’S A Fucking Rock Show

Seeing Dillinger Escape Plan is worth the concussion. How many bands these days rock this hard? I can name one other - The Chariot. If The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Chariot go on a tour together in the near future, God help us all. Skulls will be bashed in across the country, and every victim would ask for more. Bringing fans on stage, constant stage diving, hanging from the rafters; you just don’t see this enough these days. No wonder the Chicago show ended up being one of Greg’s favorites.

I need to get around to seeing them live. Soon.

Even if you don’t like The Chariot‘s music, you have to admire their energy and spirit that they display in the above video. Apparently when playing a venue in Australia, a bowl of pears was knocked over, which apparently puts an end to the show. Apparently the venue owners didn’t get the memo that says Australians should be too busy worrying about the deadliest creatures in the world that inhabit their continent to cry over spilled pears.

Instead of letting the most un-hardcore thing ever put an end to their show, they immediately take the crowd to a fan’s house to finish off their set, putting on an intimate and chaotic show. If that isn’t something to admire, I don’t know what is.

So, watch the above video for one of the most entertaining tour update videos I’ve ever seen. It was just announced that The Chariot would be support on the upcoming Scream The Prayer tour, so if this isn’t a reason to finally make it out and see them when they make their next rounds, I don’t know what is. Long live The Chariot!

Alright, so the lineup for the Scream The Prayer IV has just been announced. As usual with a tour of this size, it’s a mixed bag, and you also have to consider that these are all christian bands, and therefore they are more likely to suck. However, I do believe that this year the good may actually outweigh the bad, unlike last year. Thank goodness. Lets have a look at the lineup shall we?

Meek Is Murder – Algorithms

Meek Is Murder

Algorithms

01. Hello, World!
02. Return Void
03. Algorithms
04. Recursions
05. (null)
06. Hope Springs Eternal (Spaghetti Code)
07. Sundowners
08. foo
09. Dining Philosophers
10. Garbage Collector

[03/22/11]
[Self-Released/Metalsucks]

As soon as the piercing feedback and subsequent hellish dirge of opening track “Hello, World!” erupts from your speakers, it becomes abundantly clear; Meek is Murder is the powerful return of the mathcore aesthetic done right. Sounding like Nails fronted by The Chariot’s Josh Scogin, Algorithms is so good that you can pretend Norma Jean never found out about Warped Tour and instead decided that a path of righteous technical showmanship and a steamroller of hardcore assault was the better way to go.

Believe it or not, Bring Me The Horizon‘s latest album Hell…/Heaven… (I’ll be damned if I’m typing out that entire pretentious album title, just google it) was actually pretty good! The production on it was undeniably glorious and the musicianship reached a new level of maturity. The only problem I found with the album was the weakest link frontman Oli Sykes, who has some pretty dumb lyrical moments. One of those moments happens to be in their latest single “Blessed With A Curse.”

Ever since this began, I was blessed with a curse.
And for better or for worse I was born into a hearse.
I know I said my heart beats for you. I was lying girl, it beats for two.
Because I got your love and I got these vices.

Kill me.

Obviously any sort of ballad from BMTH is going to be dripping in angst, but the song itself isn’t all that offensive from a musical standpoint. It also doesn’t really represent the album all that much, even in terms of softer songs—“Don’t Go” is actually a good song. Don’t just take my word for it though; for a taste of the potential BMTH can show at times, listen to “Fox and the Wolf” (featuring Josh Scogin of The Chariot!?) after the jump. It brings the heavy.

As I promised when I posted about this tour back in January and saw Norma Jean play at the Nile Theater live on March Second for their Explosions II tour, here’s a review of the gig.

Just as expected, Norma Jean did not disappoint. Their set was pure energy with every member playing their heart out, lead by their very passionate front man Cory Putman.  I’m going to try to piece together the show as best as I remember it. I won’t have you believe this is exactly how their set list was played. I’m too active a concert-goer to take notes. I headbang, I jump, and I scream every lyric I know when I’m at a small-venue concert.

This Just In: The Chariot RULE Live

Holy shit man, I honestly thought I’d seen it all.  I’ve been to quite a few shows in my day, and while I still really enjoy seeing bands live, these days I find myself feeling more and more like a  jaded old metal guy. This is pretty sad since I’m only 25, but in a world overrun with scene kids and kung fu moves – I can’t help but sit back and feel like the glory days have passed me by. I usually just stand by the bar sipping beers, enjoying the music, and longing for the days of old school circle pits so I could get my big ass in there and knock the shit out of these morons. But I digress…

Everyone is alive, everyone is breathing, nothing is dead and nothing is bleeding. Towbar’s probably up the shitter though.

No word on the future dates on their tour with Haste The Day, Mychildren Mybride and A Plea For Purging, but bands have cancelled shows for much less – the van’s a pretty vital piece of equipment, ya know?

Good luck to them getting back on their feet.
