In case you missed it, Shai Hulud‘s newest record was awesome. It is a return for a band that has been praised throughout their career, and their new record is proof that they aren’t going anywhere. Now, to kick things off right, they are doing an East Coast tour with Thy Will Be Done. Sweet!

Shai Hulud have a history of always putting out some killer record of their signature blend of progressive metalcore and hardcore with those killer melodies that make any song memorable. This record has been in the making for quite some time now, and frankly, people were kind of starting to get restless. Did the album live up to all of the hype, or did it flatline and leave a sense of emptiness rather than purpose?

Shai Hulud - Reach Beyond the Sun

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m pretty stoked about the upcoming record from Shai Hulud. It’s super catchy metal, and from the singles we have heard it has a lot to offer, and makes the album sound even more promising. Now, to prepare us even further for their release and impending tour, they’ve released a guitar video to the song ‘The Mean Spirits, Breathing’. I personally love updates from the studio such as these, because it’s awesome to see musicians play their music. It really goes to show just how difficult some of the stuff they make is to play. You can watch the full video below, and pre-order their album here:

Reach Beyond The Sun will be released February 19th via Metal Blade Records. Catch them on tour in Europe, Australia, and the northeastern US, with dates after the jump!

With a signing to Southern Lord and members list that includes stints in Trap ThemShai HuludMisery Signals and, of all things, Fallout Boy, it’s probably fair to say that Enabler have a pedigree. And while the idea of a ‘supergroup’ tends to bring out the cynics in flocks, upon first listen of their new album All Hail The Void it’s hard to deny that they do themselves justice. Comprised of crusty, metallic hardcore that seats itself in the same school of ‘Entombed-core’ as bands like All Pigs Must Die and the aforementioned Trap Them — it’s exactly the kind of violent aural massage I needed to start this week and you can catch the full album stream too over at BlowTheScene.com before it drops tomorrow!

It has come to Heavy Blog’s attention that a lot of rumours and secret projects are popping up all over our internets at the moment. Having the comparative deductive powers of Batman and Sherlock Holmes combined, we’re pretty sure we’ve worked them out. Can your own MENSA-esque IQs match ours, or are you the mental equivalent of a fetid banana? Either way, let us inform you of our theories. let the game commence!

Case 1: The Black Mass Conspiracy

Picked up by The PRP over the weekend, a couple of bands – namely Shai Hulud and Bring Me The Horizon – have been tweeting about this. Linking to this website, you get a thirteen second, Opeth-esque dark acoustic guitar loop that sounds like it’s going to build into something tasty. Never does, but it’s a brain teaser all the same. Also present is a live countdown, which will run out on October 11th, thank you very much.

This one may well have been cracked a full 57 days ahead of schedule though. We tracked down a Twitterite by the name of Curbside Audio, lassooed his feet together and dangled him over Paris Hilton’s gaping vagina, and got him to spill what beans he himself had…spull.

Mind you he got this information from Billy the Rat, who heard it from back-street Jenny, but it’s rumoured that New York hardcore band This Is Hell’s forthcoming album is to be titled The Black Mass. Given that it’s due out about that time, and both BMTH and Shai Hulud have toured with TIH in the past, and conceivably are friends, it makes sense that they’d try to churn up the rumour mill.

Case solved? Good as.

But wait! Our work is not yet done! Read on for more..

…especially when it’s combined with a good Glassjaw reference, re: John Lennon.

Canadian hardcore band Counterparts have just posted a new song called ‘(You Think You’re) John Fucking Locke‘ on their Myspace page. I haven’t had a chance to give it a listen yet, but they at least deserve an e-five for their keen pop culture referencing skills.

The band are currently on tour throughout Canadia with Shai Hulud, Lionheart & Hundredth, before heading to South Dakota Fanning sans the second band.

Tour dates after the jump.
