UPDATE: It would seem that Oceano are done for.

Just to clear everything up, Oceano is NOT looking for a new singer. New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will be one of the last Oceano shows ever, and yes, Adam will be there. Thanks for all of your support.

Tragic. [via Metal Injection]

Yesterday in the wake of all the shock and awe of Killswitch Engage moving on without vocalist Howard Jones, Lambgoat pointed out that Adam Warren has also apparently left Oceano. The coincidences don’t stop there; where I speculated that Howard leaving Killswitch may have been related to allegedly knocking up a porn star that one time, Adam left Oceano because all all the touring was apparently preventing him from seeing his son grow up. D’awwww.

Here’s what Adam had to say:

“I’m shocked [about Howard's departure], but well… If Killswitch can go on after 9 years and 3 albums without Mr. Jones on vox…. Why couldn’t a certain band with out me? (2 albums and a mere 3 years) Just sayin.”I got a son that’s growing quick to provide for and I don’t wanna miss a second of it. I keep it real. I’m workin on some projects here at home, they’ll pop up when I get time away from father duties to dig deeper.”
I don’t like Oceano at all, but my best wishes goes out to Adam. That’s a bold move, and he should be respected for being there for his family. There hasn’t been an official statement from Oceano yet, aside from jokingly asking for Howard’s demo. We might update you on their vocalist situation if we decide to care (or if Howard actually takes them up on the offer).

Alright, so I think I’ve bitched enough about how The Summer Slaughter Tour for the year is a tad bit lackluster. Last year’s lineup was pretty consistent in quality, but this year features more terrible music that I care to drive four hours or more to sit through. Some of you that are luckily enough to not be geographically impaired and happen to really dig The Black Dahlia Murder and don’t care to drive a half hour to see them headline over shitty bands like Oceano. Good for you! Really, I wish I had that luxury, but seeing as how I’m apparently four hours away from any good show, I have to weed out the bullshit. I’m sure I’m not the only one around here that has to do a bit of travel to see shows, so when I talk about tours and such, I’m a bit critical of lineup consistency and such for those in my predicament. So yeah, done with that.

However, a lineup that does feature more consistently great acts is Slaughter Survivors, a collection of bands that were considered for the opening support slot for Summer Slaughter. The bands, for the most part, seem to be conveniently catered specifically for Heavy Blog Is Heavy’s general demographic and readership. The most vocal of you seem to line up with me in taste, so you should dig the lineup:

CONDUCTING FROM THE GRAVE, THE CONTORTIONIST, SCALE THE SUMMIT, RINGS OF SATURN, VOLUMES & STRUCTURES

Now that’s a lineup I’d drive four hours to see, and it looks like I might just be able to! Check out the dates after the jump.

The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza easily had one of the best records last year in Danza III: The Series of Unfortunate Events. It was aggressive and technical, yet somehow catchy in its quirky bi-polar approach. I’ve always wanted to see them live, as they perform almost flawlessly and are fairly intense, especially guitarist Josh Travis, who can do some wild two hand tapping while thrashing around without missing a beat. Unfortunately, they’ve never came close enough and they always seem to tour with generic or terrible deathcore bands like Carnifex and Oceano. I love you Danza, but tour with Dillinger or something!

Fortunately, Hardtimes.ca captured their set recently on some tour that I didn’t keep up with. It really doesn’t matter; the important thing is that Hardtimes were there and got the footage for you so you didn’t have to wade through a sea of bros to catch their performance.

I hear that they’re working on Danza IV. Sweet Jesus, I can’t wait for that one.

[Part I | Part II]

We have again arrived on the negative side of scratchy band logos. Those who have stuck it out so far have seen some highs and some lows, experience emotions they’ve never felt before, and exercised muscles they didn’t know they had. Now we get into the really nitty-gritty. The worst of the worst. The creme de la creme of faux textures, distressed fonts and cheesy photoshop warp filters. Here are the worst scratchy band logos numbers 5 through 1.

5. ALL SHALL PERISH

This one is tough because I love All Shall Perish so much. However as I said to the kids I bullied in elementary school, I tease you because I want you to be better. Everyone knows that you should stay away from warp effects in photoshop. Unfortunately whoever created this textured monstrosity missed that memo. I’m not a fan of blackletter typefaces to begin with and the stretching and vectorization of this one did not lead to a pleasing result.

Well, compared to last year’s excellent lineup, this one’s a step down. I was expecting more of a Sumerian Records influence, as they’re normally involved the most, and with The Faceless, TRAM/Animals as Leaders (presumably) having albums coming out with Born of Osiris coming off a critically acclaimed album, I was totally expecting this to be dominated by Sumerian Records. Not a single band from their roster on this year!

No doubt, Powerglove and Fleshgod Apocalypse will provide an excellent time, bit the rest is quite lacking. Oceano? As Blood Runs Black? Six Feet Under? Avoiding like the plague. I honestly have no opinion on Dying Fetus and Whitechapel are completely unoffensive to me, but I’m sure Darkest Hour and The Black Dahlia Murder no doubt putting on relatively good shows, but this is just lacking the huge power that last year’s tour had.

As of this post, they’ve yet to reveal tour dates. We’ll be sure to let you know when the word is dropped!

[False Prophet Records]

So let’s air the dirty laundry then. Monsters are the first band signed to False Prophet Records, the label owned by Emmure‘s Frankie Palmeri who may be quite possibly one of the most hated groups ever, next to bands like Limp Bizkit. Obviously, post-ironic beardcore this is not: it’s tough-guy deathcore. Now as time goes on, I find myself enjoying more and more tough-guy deathcore; bands like Defiler and Oceano, mostly because it’s just funny and so damn over the top. However, my main problem with it is that when I’m laughing I can’t tell; am I laughing with them or at them?

Oceano have a pretty bad rep around these parts. I personally haven’t much time for deathcore as it is, but in all fairness, if you’re going to cite a particular band as a negative influence on metal today, you should know what you’re talking about.

That said, I didn’t come into this predisposed to give this album a bad review. Oceano are liked by a lot of kids; they’re meant to be the forefront of deathcore, and so despite the severe animosity my compatriots have shown towards Contagion, surely there must be something of merit?

Well: no, no there isn’t. Not really, and not for me at least.

For the life of me, I can’t remember if I’ve posted the first studio video on here or not, but my internet at home has been beyond lousy as of late, so I’ve had a hard time working on the site and figuring shit out. My new modem should be in soon, so I’ll try to get more done when it comes in! That said, don’t expect all that much else from me today unless luck happens.

So Born Of Osiris have posted their second studio video online this week. As you might be able to tell from the video, BoO have decided not to record with Joey Sturgis producing. Thank goodness; that man was responsible for producing some of the shittiest albums to pass for metal in the past few years. We’re talking Attack Attack, Emmure, and Oceano here. Get that shit out of my face. Apparently the only great albums he produced that I can see here was for I Am Abomination. Instead, the group are co-producing it with Don Byczynski, who recently said the album will have twelve tracks. This is sounding like it will be their best work yet.

Born of Osiris’ third studio album is due out early next year on Sumerian Records.

Fuck. [Part II]

In a hilarious turn of events, Chelsea Grin frontman Alex Koehler fractured his jaw, effectively preventing him from Chelsea Grinning. Dohoho!!

However, instead of canceling the tour so we can all have a hearty bout of laughter, they decide to ruin our shit by going ahead and touring with Oceano frontman Adam Warren. It’s like shit going into other shit. So if you take into consideration this Chelsea Grin tour (with Atilla and Blind Witness) and the Attack Attack!/Emmure tour, the United States and Canada are rightly fucked as far as live show opportunities are concerned.

Check for dates after the jump. Dammit all.
