In an unfortunate turn of events it seems that vocalist Andy ‘Weedgrinder’ Horn and guitarist Nick ‘Nikropolis’ Poulos have parted ways with weed-obsessed, death metal merchants Cannabis Corpse. Despite this, the band will continue to play shows and release material as stated in this Lambgoat newspost.

Most importantly though, after the recent death of GWAR guitarist Cory Smooth, Cannabis Corpse were set to play the benefit show in his name scheduled for the 7th of January at the Canal Club in Richmond, Va. Thankfully, friend and local resident Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God has announced through his Twitter account that he plans to stand in on vocals for the show which should make for an interesting dynamic. All proceeds go directly to the Smoot family and guitars from both Municipal Waste and GWAR will be given away in a raffle. All I can say is that, if it was in any way viable for me to get to that show, I would but it looks like I just have to enjoy the highlight reel when it gets uploaded to YouTube. In the meantime, however, check out ‘Gateways To Inhalation‘ from the 2011 Cannabis Corpse album Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise posted above — it kills.

Remember Argonauts? No? The new band from ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Dimitri Minakakis and members of East Of The Wall, Municipal Waste and luminaries of Burnt By The Sun? Are you excited yet? Or even curious? Should I stop asking these endless questions?!

Fine. Anyway, it was Gwar‘s Gwar-B-Q event in Richmond VA this past weekend, and some useful sod caught Argonauts’ set on film for you internet-type people to see.

There’s more, but you’re going to have to hit the jump to see them. GO WAN!

That’s right. Metalsucks are putting on a festival. Two nights of straight up tongue-in-cheek suck featuring headliners Municipal Waste and Cynic. There’s another good 18 bands yet to be announced, but it sounds super promising. It’s a shame it isn’t a summer fest, or otherwise I’d have tried to make a flight given the right finances. Unfortunately, I can’t make it. Getting an education sucks.

If you can make it though, don’t pass this up. November 4th and 5th at Gramercy Theater in New York. Congrats Axl and Vince, this is pretty damn cool. The internet has infiltrated real life!

God love you, you guys annoy me, but hopefully this will shut you up for five minutes at least.

The tail end of 09, saw four gentleman who did time in Burnt by the Sun, The Dillinger Escape Plan & The Postman Syndrome, that currently play in Municipal Waste and East of the Wall as well, start charting out sea changes. Argonauts have set their own course in heavy music, unconcerned with limitation or agenda. Hold Fast.

The name certainly interests me; I’m a huge ancient Greek mythology nerd, so the whole Jason angle is a big plus for me, but the man fronting this promising outfit will probably prove to be the bigger draw for most people: none other than Mr. Dimitri Minakakis, former vocalist of the Dillinger Escape Plan. DEP enthusiasts will know that Minakakis, who was the band’s vocalist up to and including 1999′s genre-bending album Calculating Infinity, left the band to focus on his graphic design business amongst other things, and indeed, he supplied the artwork for last year’s fantastic Option Paralysis.

Joining him are drummer Dave Witte of Municipal Waste, his ex-bandmate in Burnt By The Sun John Adubato on guitars, and rounded off by Brett Bamberger of East of the Wall on bass.

Now, it’s no secret that Calculating Infinity-era purists annoy the bajeezus out of me, and I’m sure Argonauts won’t produce anything remotely like it, but I’m fine with that, and I’m looking forward to hearing Dimitri’s work once more. The band have listed themselves as “Metal / Noise / Darkwave” on Facebook, which means it’ll probably be a bit more post-metally, but don’t hold me to that. No music as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted!

Who The Hell Are Parasytic?

That was my first thought when I saw a link to a stream of the new Parasytic album Poison Minds over at The New Review.

My second thought was: ‘And why has no one told me about them before!?’. Normally I get quite fanboy-ish over everything Relapse signs but this slipped under my radar and for no good reason, Parasytic is comprised of members  from bands such as Cannabis Corpse and Alabama Thunderpussy and  play thrash/crossover with a real punk feel; so think part Municipal Waste and part Trash Talk but just way filthier. If that at all tickles your fancy, get over there and blast ‘TV Drug‘ whilst shotgunning your beverage of choice – you’ll be sold, I was.

Apparently the album has just recently been reissued through Relapse so you still have time to pretend you liked them before they were popular!

Admittedly, thrash isn’t my forte. I could never get into the genre save for a few choice bands here and there; not to say the genre is bad or anything like that, of course. It’s just not appealing to me for the most part. I’m sure a number of Heavy Blog readers can identify, considering our average subject material and its drawing. Taking into consideration my distaste for the genre, I suppose it means something when I say that NYC cross-over thrash band Cut Your Teeth are damn good.

The Wizards of Partying, Municipal Waste, have a new song on their myspace to annihilate you.  It’s titled “Wrong Answer“. There’s nothing new here, it’s good old crossover thrash and it’s just super fun stuff. The only thing different is that it’s over 2 minutes. Insane, that is. The song is for their upcoming release “Massive Aggressive” which will be out August 25th on Earache Records.

So get drunk and give it a listen. Or listen to it sober, whatever. I don’t give a shit.
