Soul Cycle‘s Chris Catharsis and Mark Hawkins (I told you he got around) are good friends of the site, so when they needed artwork done for their impending self-titled debut album, I wanted to try and help them out to the best of my abilities. I’m delighted and super stoked to say that they enjoyed what I put together for them and they’re using my cover design for Soul Cycle. Check it!

Guitar nerds Kevin Suter and Mark Hawkins (who has definitely been getting around, that whore!) have been apparently busy with a secret project called Assimilated Mind Phase, taking the form of experimental ambient tech metal akin to Blotted Science and Meshuggah.

Last night, OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE, they released their debut EP Involuntary Deconstruction, playing like a 22 minute epic broken up into 7 tracks. Listen to this intergalactic shredfest below and be amazed. Then, you can pay what you want for it; it could technically be nothing, but come on man. Don’t be that way.

Friend of the site Mark Hawkins (Eating Infinity, Soul Cycle) has uploaded a collaborative acoustic track featuring Luke Jaeger ( ex-Hunab Ku & Sleep Terror) and Vishal J. Singh (Amogh Symphony). The song was produced by Vishal, who plays in the left channel with Mark at the right and Luke at the center.

I know this site’s called “Heavy Blog Is Heavy” and all, but if you can’t appreciate these smooth and sexy tones, then you can rightly go fuck yourself. This is a seriously amazing song, and you should give it a few listens via the SoundCloud player below.

In other Mark Hawkins related news, Soul Cycle, his melodic metal project with Chris Catharsis (who wrote for us that one time), is complete and is about to be released to rock faces the world over. Be sure to check the band’s Facebook for more info as it comes in! After the jump, a sampler from the album!

You may remember Mark Hawkins and his instrumental music project that we once featured. Well Mark is back with a new song, “Enabler,” which is available for a free download right here.

Shredtastic!

Mark is currently working on a tech/djent/melodic death metal project called Soul Cycle with Chris Catharsis, who wrote for us once! It’s sure to be an awesome project, well worth listening to.

Friday, I posted a track from Florida based metal band Eating Infinity and pointed you in the direction to getting more of their stuff for free. Well, their guitarist and songwriter Mark Hawkins has his own solo project going on, ranging from crazy progressive and tech death to more acoustic and ambient stuff.

There are a ton of one-man music projects out there, and most of them are very djenty. While Mark does have hints of djent in his music at times (in that he listens to some Meshuggah every once in a while), he keeps it on the more brutal side of things. Hear it for yourself! Check out (and download!) six tasty selections from his catalog of over 100 downloadable tracks below. Hit Mark up on MySpace too, while you’re at it. Thank him for the awesome music for me!
