Tag Archive: I Am Abomination

Things have been a bit rough for I Am Abomination since their debut album To Our Forefathers. They’ve got through would-be crippling lineup changes that left them just with their guitarist and vocalist and they’ve parted ways with label Good Fight Music. Despite all of this, it’s good to see that they’re still actively making music. Their progressive post-hardcore sound reminiscent of Protest the Hero as if fronted by Fallout Boy vocalist Patrick Stump is actually quite good; soulful singing, technical musicianship, and hooks left and right!

Their new single ‘Hangin’ On‘ is now available on iTunes. You can stream it above. The track will presumably appear on an upcoming album that the duo are hard at work on. We’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as there’s more word on these guys.

Apparently a lot has happened since last year’s excellent album To Our Forefathers in the I Am Abomination camp. A huge lineup shake up has left the band with two members, vocalist Phil Druyor and guitarist Nick Sampson. Being short-handed isn’t stopping them though, as the duo are releasing an EP next month, titled Passion of the Heist. If you’re not familiar, I am Abomination are a post-hardcore band with progressive metal influences, sounding sort of like The Human Abstract fronted by that guy from Fall Out Boy if he could actually sing. It’s a guilty pleasure, but the dudes are great musicians, so it’s worth it; they’re like a less technical Protest the Hero, really!

Their new song “Abduction” is pretty spiffy as well. You can listen to it below.

You’ll be able to hear the rest of the EP July 16th when it sees its release on Good Fight Music.

It’s always good to find a young and talented band, and Ohio’s Novallo are just that. The band have just released a new song call Time Critical, and they are giving it away for free!  Clocking in at almost 5 minutes, the song is very melodic, technical, and tight. The vocals are almost entirely sung, with the occasional scream here and there. If you’re into acts like Protest The Hero, Corelia, or even I Am Abomination then you’ll dig these guys for sure. You can listen to and download the song from their facebook page, and be sure to keep an eye on them because they have an EP coming out soon!

Proggy post-hardcore/metalcore/whatever you want to call em I Am Abomination have posted their first music video for their song “Since 1776,” and it’s pretty good as far as videos go. The video definitely fits in with the big brother/Illuminati theme of the album, and it’s always refreshing when videos are more than just performance shots in a warehouse, field, or some sort of dilapidated building.

“Since 1776″ is from their debut album To Our Forefathers, available now on Good Fight Music. Check it out if you’re into bands like Protest the Hero or Periphery. You’ll probably dig it!

Today I was scrolling through my Facebook updates only to find that The Chariot has uploaded a new track titled “The Audience” from their newest record on their Myspace! I was never a fan of The Chariot until I saw their very intense live performance with Norma Jean. Their older work seems to be hit and miss with me, but their most recent album Wars and Rumors of Wars was practically flawless. Their sound evolved to something much more fluid and concrete while maintaining the chaos that they’ve always been known for.

The newest track seems to continue right from where they left off, and that’s a good thing. In addition, they’ve signed to Good Fight Music! This is exciting, as Good Fight Music is a rather new label (compared to Nuclear Blast, Metalblade, Century Media, etc.) that enjoys the company of bands like The Contortionist, Son of Aurelius, and I Am Abomination. Given their latest release, plus the new label signing I’m completely stoked for Long Live, due out on November 23rd!

If you’ve never given The Chariot a chance, give this video a listen and enjoy one of the muddiest head-whipping breakdowns you’ve heard.

For the life of me, I can’t remember if I’ve posted the first studio video on here or not, but my internet at home has been beyond lousy as of late, so I’ve had a hard time working on the site and figuring shit out. My new modem should be in soon, so I’ll try to get more done when it comes in! That said, don’t expect all that much else from me today unless luck happens.

So Born Of Osiris have posted their second studio video online this week. As you might be able to tell from the video, BoO have decided not to record with Joey Sturgis producing. Thank goodness; that man was responsible for producing some of the shittiest albums to pass for metal in the past few years. We’re talking Attack Attack, Emmure, and Oceano here. Get that shit out of my face. Apparently the only great albums he produced that I can see here was for I Am Abomination. Instead, the group are co-producing it with Don Byczynski, who recently said the album will have twelve tracks. This is sounding like it will be their best work yet.

Born of Osiris’ third studio album is due out early next year on Sumerian Records.

I, Omega

Formerly know as The Syncope Threshold, this group from Upland, CA changed their name to I, Omega back in January of this past year. They play a progressive and technical brand of metal in the same vein as I Am Abomination, Protest The Hero, and Corellia, although they can sometimes have more of a punky feel to their music. They released one album under their old name last year, titled Tale Of The Complex Circuit and I think it’s a pretty nice piece of work. I’ll go ahead and say that some people will probably hate this band because of the vocals; they may take some getting used to but I’ve grown to enjoy the vocals of front man Joseph Garcia. Anyways, if you enjoy listening to any of the bands I mentioned above then be sure to check I, Omega out on myspace. Also, here is one of my favorite tracks from Tale Of The Complex Circuit:

(The quality of this video is kind of crappy but it’s better on the actual album)

The community seems split on metalcore bands with technical prowess who stick to cleanly sung vocals throughout the majority of their music as is the case in Periphery and Protest the Hero. I, however, find nothing wrong with bands utilizing singers that know what the hell they’re doing, and I Am Abomination seem to be doing just that with their debut album To Our Forefathers.

I Am Abomination have moments reminiscent of the aforementioned Protest the Hero and Between The Buried And Me, with melodic sweeping riffs and spiraling guitar leads, with a slight touch of stuttering djent riffs here and there, as best showcased in their opening track “Since 1776″. Their post-hardcore sound gives a more punk-rockish feel at times rather than metal, but that doesn’t make it any less good. There’s also a slight electronic influence taking place, with programmed beats, stuttering vocal effects, and arpeggiating synth runs that add a slight industrial flavor when they pop up. All of this ends up in a tight prog-tinged instrumental front that is sure to please those into this style of music.
