Hope For The Dying

A couple of us got real excited for Hope For The Dying‘s debut album Dissimulation a couple of years ago for the band’s progressive metalcore sound that could easily sit among the ears of fans of Between the Buried and Me and The Human Abstract. Hope For The Dying incorporate more symphonic elements, which made them stand out a bit, especially as a Christian band on a label that’s more or less filled with super preachy and generic hardcore influenced acts. Hope For The Dying don’t suffer these pitfalls though, and chances are, if you’re reading this site regularly to begin with, then this band worth checking out.

The band’s second album Aletheia (a Greek word meaning “disclosure” or “truth”) is due out March 19th on Facedown Records, and the first taste of the album has just been made available in the form of a lyric video for the new single ‘In Isolation.’ You can listen to the track below:

For those who aren’t familiar with them, Hope for the Dying (also referred to as HFTD) is an American christian metal band from Jonesboro, Illinois. Their brand of metalcore is extremely unique, taking the best of August Burns Red, The Human Abstract, etc. and expressing it with the addition of classical orchestrations.  However, as straightforward as I have made their sound, there is still numerous other disparate influences that are hard to pinpoint, making their sound definitive.  Dissimulation is HFTD’s second record and debut under Facedown Records.

Before I even begin to talk about this record, it should be known that this record must be tackled in its entirety if you are listening to it for the first time.  This record flows from track to track seamlessly, and even flows from the end of the album to the beginning of the album, which is an awesome touch.  Multiple listens are also a must, since it’s extremely nuanced, which shows the care HFTD put into Dissimulation.

So I decided to do what Dan did on a slow news day. This list is in no particular order. Enjoy.

1) Smaragos – “Furnace

This song is so good.  So many layers happening at the same time makes for a chaotic but memorable experience.  The numerous influences are shown, and that tabla/sitar solo just blows me away.

2) Red Fang – “Wires

I love new music that harkens back to old times.  This huge fest of stoner rock is a perfect example.  The vocalist has such a great voice, and the riff is beyond catchy.  The whole album is this good, so check it out immediately.

A few days ago, we became aware of this up and coming progressive metalcore band Hope For The Dying and spread the word around. Now, their sophomore album Dissimulation is available for streaming on Facebook, and it’s pretty sweet. The best way I can describe it is in the ballpark of The Human Abstract with symphonic elements; that should give you an idea as to what you should be hearing right now. If nothing else, listen to the track “Transcend;” it’s fantastic.

Enough reading, click here and go listen! Dissimulation is out April 26th on Strike First/Facedown records!

Throw in the technical riffs of August Burns Red, mesh it with some ambient keys and orchestrations, throw in leads and sweeping that recall The Human Abstract as well as After The Burial, and top the formula with some powerful, intense drumming as well as odd time signatures.  What do you get?  Well, you get Hope For The Dying, of course!

Hope For The Dying (otherwise known as HFTD) is an American Christian metal band from Jonesboro, Illinois.  However, their sound spans so many different genres of music.  Here, take a listen to a single from their upcoming record, Dissimulation:

Pretty awesome, right?  Right.  You can also hear the track “Transcendon their official MySpace, which is an even better track, in my opinion.

The album Dissimulation will be released April 26th on Facedown Records.  Get your body ready.
