The Ocean played Germany’s Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbuhl last month and filmed their set for a forthcoming live DVD (yay!). Being the generous chaps that they are they’ve released the video of “The Origin of God” above as a teaser.

Speaking about said release:

“…. and yes, that DVD. We’ve been speaking about it for a while now, right? Well, be assured that it IS still coming. The project has grown tremendously over the course of the past months. We have filmed the Heliocentric record release show in March 2010, the show at the museum for musical instruments in Berlin in January 2011, the show at the London Garage on our last tour and Summer Breeze Festival in their entirety. We’ve also had our documentary filmer Alex with us most of the time, and he has pointed his one eye on everything we’ve been through, the good, the bad and the vulgar…

Alex will also be with us for the upcoming tours. We have collected so much quality material by now that we’re thinking about turning everything into a documentary movie more than a mere music DVD. By the end of the year the “collection” process will be finished and we will spend the first half of next year on finalizing everything.”

I was only half-aware of something like this going on, and that the footage from The Garage might be included is especially exciting as I was there. Again, yay!

For those unlucky enough to have missed The Ocean‘s recent run around North America and Canada with Between the Buried and Me and Job for a Cowboy, you now have a chance to share in the magic with the first in a series of tour chronicles from the ‘Hypersleep Dialogues Trek’. Clearly it was not all sunshine and daisies; I won’t spoil it, but there seemed to be a fair bit of sorrow drowning…

It sucks that they’ve had such a bad run of luck lately, what with being robbed in Spain, and having a poor time of early closing on the UK tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan due to our shitty club nights. But hey, adversity is good for the spirit, right!

We’ll post the rest when we get wind of them.

German post-metallers The Ocean are currently streaming a new song over on their myspace called “Swallowed By The Earth.” This track is off of their highly anticipated album Heliocentric, due out April 13th on Metal Blade.

This track is a more straightforward song, with a recognizable song structure and clean singing. That’s not to say the song is bad, which it isn’t, but if you’re into the ten minute sludgy post metal with orchestral instruments thrown in that you’ve come to expect of The Ocean, then this isn’t really what you’re looking for. But if you’re a fan of The Ocean regardless, you SHOULD like it.

Next week the album drops. Be sure to check this bad boy out.

You mean to tell me that this album drops next week? Fuck me, this is going to be a great month for metal. In this webisode, members of The Ocean go into the background of the band, discussing some hardships and how newer band members are contributing to the record.
