We’ve had more than one jealous remark thrown our way over the past weeks or so after getting our greasy mits on the debut album from Basick Records’ new French signing Uneven Structure, Februus. Belay the hit squad folks: you can now listen to the entire first disc of the album over at their Facebook page.

As you well know, we loved it to pieces: Gein saidFebruus is a living, breathing behemoth of a record that gives listeners a reason to believe in a genre that’s becoming incredibly derivative, while also paying respect to the art of production”, and he’s not wrong. Go give it a spin for yourself, and then order your good selves a copy – it’s out on October 31st.

Two years. Two years is how long French metallers Uneven Structure have been working on their firstborn child Februus. From a seemingly bedroom project to a full-blown monster out on Heavy Blog favorite Basick Records, it has been a long journey for these guys. While you can’t relate the long wait anguish to the pain fans of Necrophagist or Wintersun endure, there’s certainly some relief to be felt knowing that it’s finally ready to see daylight. Seeing the product of these intelligent musicians come to fruition after long periods of silence is remarkable when you consider the effort put into this. Hours upon hours of work and continuous iterations and refinements make this an album everyone should give props to, whether you like the music or not.  In the end, though, it’s about whether you can talk the talk and walk the walk. Fortunately, Uneven Structure manage to not only talk and walk, but give a speech while running a god damn marathon. Februus is good. Really, really good.

Pretty much the entirety of Heavy Blog is excited for the Uneven Structure‘s debut album Februus, due out October 31st on Basick Records. The band has just released a new video for their track “Awaken” over at Metal Hammer, and it’s pretty neat. Here’s some info on the video:

Filmed on location in Switzerland, guitarist Igor Omodei gives us an insight to the imagery behind the video: “The track ‘Awaken’ takes place at the very beginning of the album, it’s the start of a journey. The music video is meant to metaphorically re-transcribe this and to help the viewer get acquainted with the physical representation of the Februus universe, visual codes and characters.”
Filmed over two days on location in Switzerland by Patrick Haberli (Proghippie.com) and Christophe Mosconi (Qatlaq), the concept, artwork and post production was completed by guitarist Igor Omodei.

Uneven Structure‘s long-anticipated debut album Februus has finally been given a release date. As they always do, Basick Records have given us a jizztastic amount of information all together – and it looks to be one of the most interesting albums we’ve seen in a while.

We’ve been super excited about this one for a while – featuring the band in Prog-Metal March before the preview track “Frost was ever heard.

It’s a thirteen-piece concept album covering not one but TWO discs, and guitarist Aure Pereira had this to say:

If we were to give any advice to our fans before they listen to Februus, we would tell them to take their time and really open their minds to the music, because there are a million different listening levels. Recording has taken us so long but we think it was worth the wait in the end. We wanted to be sure that we had put the best of us in it and I think we’ve been successful at doing that. Thall.

Interested in knowing the tracklisting? That and more after the jump!

While the update isn’t as good as the mind-blowingly seven and a half minute long song they uploaded a few weeks ago, you can still get a taste of where the atmosphere is going and how thick the sound is on their upcoming release, Februus. Now, where’s my release date, god damnit?!

More news as it comes.

HNNNNNNNG YES!

I’ve been dying to hear who the full-time vocalist of Uneven Structure is and as of today, he’s been unveiled. The guy’s name is Matthieu Romarin and he’s the vocalist for another band called Ananta. I was scared they’d hire someone who was ‘meh’, but this guy is pretty fucking good (and damn does he sound passionate). The snippet at the end of the video had me jizzing. Check it out:

I fucking love this band.

Februus still has no release date. Sad face.

If I haven’t already expressed my undying love for Uneven Structure, then I will now. They are, as I’ve said in a previous post, a band that epitomizes good music. Djent may be new, but I already feel that Uneven Structure are a master of it despite only having an EP out. So in my attempts hopefully deliver some good, exclusive content, I went straight for this man: Igor Omodei (also known by the monikers of Iggy and Eggeh), one of the genius guitarists and songwriters behind Uneven Structure. Within hours of emailing him, I got some answers.

NOTE: English is not his first language so if there’s something you don’t understand I apologize.

Introduce yourself for those who might not know who you are!

I’m Igor “Iggy” Omodei, I play guitar and write stuff for Uneven Structure

Uneven Structure is probably the most badass name in metal. How did you guys come up with it?

Haha, the explanation may be a bit less badass actually. It has nothing to do with the fact we use odd time signatures and unusually long song structures. Actually we’ve been looking for a name that would represent something like floating islands or weird architectural structures, deep, complex and big. It all ended up on Uneven Structure!

You guys released an incredible EP, 8, in December last year to a lot of positive feedback and I personally thought the lyrics were as amazing as the music. Who wrote the lyrics and what’s the whole lyrical theme behind it?

Thanks! Lyrics were written by Daniel and me. It’s all about the “egg or the chicken” dilemma. If divinities induced fanaticism or if it is fanaticism that created these, seen through this eyes of an oracle.
