So I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but a lot of awesome tours have been announced and hinted at over the past two weeks. It seems like every awesome band is getting buddy-buddy with another awesome band and trekking through North America together. The only thing I have to complain about is…none of them are coming near me.  Which sucks, but honestly I can live with not going because knowing that metal fans will have such a wide array of awesome shows to go to is enough to make me happy. Well, kind of.

Anywho, as it says up top Intronaut have just announced a small selection of shows with openers Black Tusk and East of the Wall. Now there’s only a handful of dates, but damn does that line-up sound nice. If I had to choose I think this tour would be the one I wound up going to…you know, if it were anywhere near me. Sigh.

[EDIT - EOTW and Black Tusk will be playing more shows without Intronaut. Full run of dates after the jump!]

Intact – Cosmicgrindvortex

Intact are a 3 piece mostly-instrumental progressive grind band from San Francisco. If that doesn’t pique your interest then you must be a sucker for conventions. This album is far from conventional. In fact, it is grind flipped on its head. This album captures the frantic nature of grind, but insists on having intention, different from the usual minute of insanity that you typically get per song. Intact draw out the progressive aspects of grindcore in a way where it becomes difficult to draw the line anymore.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends. It seems we’re often the last out of our contemporary blogs to put up our ‘best of’ lists, and I think that’s a sure sign that we’ve given it much more thought, and as such are the definitive authority on music for all time ever — NOT that we’re simply too lazy to put it up earlier, and need filler for the time between Christmas and New Year (despite this being all we will be posting).

I talked last year about perhaps how arrogant it is to create these lists and pass judgement on the artistic merits of the year’s music; like there are only ten slots and the rest is tripe, and who am I whose opinions are more worthwhile than yours?

That still holds true to some extent, because we’ve met a lot of new friends this year who have shown us a ton of great stuff – but so does the fact that we work our asses off to listen to all this stuff, and also because, once again, I, and the others after me, filled out the damn application.

I feel this is going to become a continuing theme. I don’t mean it guys; I love you really. As you already have with my fellows, feel free to tell me what you think, and in particular what a huge bag of shite I’m talking; I won’t get offended, honest!

Up at this end of the spectrum, you’re getting your full-on, down to the wire, best ten-only lists (at least with myself and Dormition) – none of this copping out. It was tough, but these are the haggard survivors of the process, but are my personal favourites from the year; based not on technicality, on brutality, or how accomplished I think the release is. No, these are honestly the ten records (and not necessarily albums) that best represent my musical year; that gave me a certain feeling, and that I have come back to again and again, and will continue to do so long into 2012. The same was true of last year’s list; despite my obligations to the new, I still listen the shit out of the old.

BRING FORTH MINE LIST!

I know this is usually done in the form of a countdown list, but I honestly couldn’t really decide on the placement of these albums. And in the end, who am I to say which album is better than another? I’m just an 18 year old kid who listens to music for fun. I love all of this albums, and I appreciate every band on this list, as well as the multitude of other bands that didn’t actually make it on my list. This year was crazy and there could have easily been 30 or 40 other albums on here, but of course time and space are an issue when dealing with writings. Hell, my original drafted featured 20 different albums, and 6000+ words. So thank me for cutting it down. Anyways, without further ramblings on my part, here are some of my favorite albums from 2011.

Because their album is called The Apologist, right? No? Fuck you.

Well, as Alkahest reported on Wednesday, East Of The Wall‘s new effort is really good, in a complex, not-really-sure-why-but-what-the-hell sort of way. BrooklynVegan have the stream, so get over there for starters. It’s out Tuesday 25th October through Translation Loss Records.

Junius kind of took everyone by surprise, but it seems Ghost having to drop off the Enslaved 20 Years Of No Compromises Tour was the best thing that could have happened for the Bostonian four-piece. Taken the Swedes’ place has taken them from being generally ignored to keenly watched, and you can find out why for yourself with AbsolutePunk’s stream of their new album Reports From The Threshold Of Death, which is also out on Tuesday through Prosthetic Records.

That’s a nice end to the week for album streams; make sure you get on both this weekend.

Opening to roaring feedback and a trudging doom riff fit for heyday Sabbath, East Of The Wall‘s sophomore effort The Apologist opens up quite unexpectedly. After all, such an opening wouldn’t often hint at a stylistic change that follows that would sit well among technically-minded music fans that East of the Wall’s fanbase is comprised of. For those unfamiliar with East of the Wall, think Mastodon with a post-hardcore flair or Isis‘ penchant for thoughtful instrumentation crossed with The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s acrobatic guitars. You’re in the ballpark, but just shy of home plate.

We’re building up pace now for a release that has caught me off guard – what with the excellent Ressentiment being released only last year – with a second new track (first here) being debuted from East Of The Wall over at NPR. Dang nabbit, they’ve been getting some excellent metal exclusives over there recently!

It’s called “False Build” and will feature on said release, which is entitled The Apologist. No apologies needed, guys!

We’ve had a cursory listen to the record ourselves and it’s pretty tasty – in fact I shall be giving it a spin later over a cursory game of FIFA 12 and a loooong glass of rum. Ah-har maties, life be good.

The Apologist is due out October 25th through Translation Loss, and the band will be touring fairly extensively (yet another wicked tour this fall) to support the release; dates, support, and other details after the jump me hearties!

Remember Argonauts? No? The new band from ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Dimitri Minakakis and members of East Of The Wall, Municipal Waste and luminaries of Burnt By The Sun? Are you excited yet? Or even curious? Should I stop asking these endless questions?!

Fine. Anyway, it was Gwar‘s Gwar-B-Q event in Richmond VA this past weekend, and some useful sod caught Argonauts’ set on film for you internet-type people to see.

There’s more, but you’re going to have to hit the jump to see them. GO WAN!

Remember that new East of the Wall album we mentioned on Friday? The one called The Apologist, out on October 25th through Translation Loss? Well our brüs at dubyah dubyah dubyah dot metal sucks dot net have bagged a stream of a brand new track from said album called “Whiskey Sipper“, and if it’s anything to go by I can tell you that this record will easily match last year’s corker Ressentiment. But what are you taking my word for it for? Go listen for yourself!

It gets particularly interesting towards the end as well, and sounds like it’s going to launch into something very tasty.

So, my friends; thoughts?

Gentlemanly post-metal aficionados East of the Wall have released a bunch of information regarding their upcoming release, the follow-up to last year’s acclaimed album Ressentiment. Releasing a new record so soon after your last can be dangerous in terms of quality control – especially if your name is Emmure – but thankfully EOTW are not Emmure, and so I have a little more confidence in this. Ressentiment is a quality album

Anyway; the new record is to be entitled The Apologist, and will have the following tracklisting:

01 – “Naif
02 – “Linear Failure
03 – “My Favorite Society Guy
04 – “False Build
05 – “Precious Memories
06 – “The Apologist”
07 – “Running Tab Of Sweetness”
08 – “Horseback Riding In A Bicycle World”
09 – “A Functional Tumor”
10 – “Nurser of Small Hurts”
11 – “Whiskey Sipper”
12 – “Underachiever”

The Apologist is due out October 25th through Translation Loss, and Antithetic Records will be handling vinyl (yay!). AWESUM.
