[Funny story, actually. I downloaded an album that was tagged Burn This World, but it turns out that it was actually their EP. Either way, I reviewed the wrong album. SILLY ME.]

Deathcore doesn’t have a lot going for it. While there are some revolutionaries in the field that does push the boundaries, a lot of groups fail to not only innovate, but make something that sounds decent. I’d rather stick to my progressive and jazz metal than listen to deathcore, which makes it very odd that I am reviewing The Browning‘s latest record, Burn This World. It’s because, even though that it’s very derivative, it’s also very catchy, very fun, very listenable, and very good.

Earache Signs Natur

…and I don’t get it.

I enjoy wholeheartedly the trad-metal works of other Earache bands like Cauldron and Enforcer but I can’t see Natur being in the same league as those bands. Ignoring the flimsy production which will probably be sorted on future releases, the song itself seems a little juvenile – check out baby’s first riff at the 2:16 mark – and too much like a garage-band who’s only purpose is to piss off the neighbors and jack off to Warlock posters. Not that I’m averse to that but, still.

However, I trust Earache see something in this band that I’m just not grasping so it’s for that reason that I’m really interested in hearing what Natur do next.

Keg Stand Your Way To A New Song

The Wizards of Partying, Municipal Waste, have a new song on their myspace to annihilate you. It’s titled “Wrong Answer“. There’s nothing new here, it’s good old crossover thrash and it’s just super fun stuff. The only thing different is that it’s over 2 minutes. Insane, that is. The song is for their upcoming release “Massive Aggressive” which will be out August 25th on Earache Records.

So get drunk and give it a listen. Or listen to it sober, whatever. I don’t give a shit.
