Tag Archive: Drewsif Stalin

When my good friend Tre Watson asked me to help him by coming up with the artwork for his upcoming album Death of a Monarch, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to do a good enough job when given direction. After about a week of talking it out, we settled on the above design the upcoming album, and I’m proud of it!

The album will be released in two parts, Death of a Monarch—the original instrumentals—and Rebirth—the songs featuring guest vocalists. Death will be released first on January 11th, 2011. Rebirth will see release later on.

Here’s a cut off of Rebirth, “My Nan and the AmTran” featuring Drewsif Stalin on vocals.

It’s short and a work in progress, but you can hear the direction Drewsif Stalin plans on taking with vocal work.

The original song is called “Collapse” and can be heard on An Insomniac’s Narrative. You can listen to and download that album here.

Heavy Blog’s favorite one man bands Tre Watson and Drewsif Stalin have the Christmas spirit. So much so, that they decided to do a djenty rendition of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (with a touch of Jingle Bell Rock thrown in for good measure). Tre lays down the chugs while Drewsif takes on vocal duties. Is it done with a bit of irony? Most likely, but we’re all fond of doing things for shits and giggles around here, especially when it yields such amusing results.

Listen to this djolly tune below and buy it here for whatever you feel compelled to give, even if nothing. But don’t be a Scrooge; throw a dollar their way.

I’m starting to feel the spirit of Christmas, and it feels groovy.

Tre Watson uploaded a new video playthrough, featuring the new album track “My Nan and the AmTran,” featuring Drewsif Stalin on vocals. The track sounds like something off of a The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza or Veil of Maya album. It’s damn fine.

Tre Watson’s Death of a Monarch comes out in December, and it’s gonna be great.

Some Asshole Steals From Drewsif Stalin

The Fringe Of Thievery

I normally don’t post anything on Saturdays, but justice doesn’t wait for business days.

Some douche that goes by “Ishi-mira” stole a Drewsif Stalin song and is pawning it off as his own, when all he did was pitch-shift the song and throw on some leads. I’m told this guy has a history of doing shit like this, apparently stealing songs from Bulb and Tre Watson. If you’re gonna throw leads over someone else’s song, the least you could do is ask for permission and give credit.

The track in question is “Perihelion”, which is actually Drewsif’s “April 22nd,” but the other one is most likely stolen as well.

You know what to do, internet.

I’m a day late on reporting this because my internet has been terrible lately and I didn’t have the time, but it’s better late than never!

Progressive metalcore band ToTheArk (featuring Drewsif Stalin on guitars and vocals) has posted their first complete original song, “October 11th.” The track is simply amazing, especially the more ambient parts. Drewsif himself even said, “I think this might be my favorite song I’ve ever written.”

Check it out below, and check out ToTheArk on Facebook.

It’s Wednesday, 1:10 PM. I’m sitting in the file office of my place of work with my headphones on, playing Daath’s new album while typing some of my thoughts into Word. I’m staring at a Photoshop window with an open project where I put Serious Cat’s head on False Nate’s body. Much to my annoyance, I can’t pick up any unsecured wi-fi from my spot. I suppose it’s for the best though; I have some work to do… I think. I’m also tempting fate by leaning back in my rolling chair. One of these days the wheels will slip and I’ll fly back, yanking the headphone cable out of my laptop (and effectively drowning the quiet office in a sudden burst of noisy metal) and sending my head into the wall of file cabinets behind me. Imagine taking one of those handles to the back of the dome. I can certainly wait for that day, even though the thought kind of amuses me. This is how I spend much of my time.

But lately, my mind keeps going back to the rumors. I’ve heard them floating around, but surely they were pipe dreams and would lead nowhere. After all, a blogger has no real power to effect anything, right? I scoffed at the idea and went back to “work.”

Out of nowhere, I get a text message from musician Tre Watson that simply read, “Announce the collaboration.  Release the Kraken!!!”

“Oh shit,” I thought to myself. “So it’s really happening…”

Apparently during my mundane office routine, my universe had been thoroughly rocked. The world is not ready for what is about to go down…

What I jokingly predicted came true. Mark Hawkins, Tre Watson, and Drewsif Stalin will be doing a song together. Never before has the world of bedroom producers compiled such a huge amount of win in one place. I said I wouldn’t know what to do with myself, and I still don’t.

It’s too early for details, but Mark saw what I had written and emailed both Tre and Drewsif, whom both seemed stoked on the idea, so now it’s happening.

Get a change of pants ready, folks.

There’s three guitarists that seem to get constant exposure on HBIH, and that’s Tre Watson, Drewsif Stalin, and Mark Hawkins. Seems like each one is doing something new each week, which I’m obligated to post. Not just because all three are friends, but because they consistently put out new great material. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if all three collaborated on a track. The world’s not ready for that yet, and it doesn’t deserve it.

But on point: Mark Hawkins of Soul Cycle and famed YouTube bassist A.J. Lewandowski (aka Cannibalistic Zombie, ex-Enfold Darkness) have collaborated on a new version of Mark Hawkins’ MK Ultra. It’s as awesome as you’d think. Stream and download below!

Oh yes.

Drewsif Stalin‘s like a machine, cranking out new tunes all the damn time. Just this weekend, the dude unleashed a new song, “Absurdity.” It’s a pretty sweet jam.

And if you didn’t know, he’s in a female fronted progressive metalcore type band called ToTheArk, which just covered the classic Ben E. King song “Stand By Me.” Check it out!

You can keep tabs on ToTheArk on MySpace.

This Fire Burns by DrewsifStalin

And musically, I think it’s better.

Friend of the site Drewsif Stalin, who released an awesome tech death EP earlier this year, covered “This Fire Burns” by Killswitch Engage. Of course, he did all the instruments and vocals himself (with the exception of the talking during the breakdown) and it sounds pretty damn good. Listen and download it above.

Keep on burning, Drew.
