Good news, everyone! Lamb of God and Dethklok are teaming up for a co-headlining tour, and they’re bringing along Gojira for support! While I was really had an opinion either way regarding Lamb of God and I’ve stopped caring about Dethklok during Season 2 of Metalocalypse, Gojira coming back to America is always good news. Best case scenario is that Gojira destroys, makes a ton of new fans, and I gain a new appreciation for Lamb of God and my relationship with Dethklok is rekindled. Worst case scenario is that I finally get to see Gojira. I can’t see a reason not to anticipate this tour.

[Self Released]

Whether you know it or not, you’re likely familiar with Mr. Brendon Small. He’s the creator and mastermind behind the cult animation hit Home Movies and more topically, Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse, which features the best-selling melodic death metal band Dethklok. With hit television shows and two Dethklok records under his belt, Brendon Small is at it again and spreading his wings for another musical endeavor in Galaktikon, a self-proclaimed “high stakes intergalactic extreme rock album.” Galaktikon sees Brendon Small trade in his death metal growls as Dethklok’s Nathan Explosion for a more melodic vocal approach, creating something catchier and almost operatic in some senses.

To coincide with the season premiere of Metalocalypse, Brendon Small will release his first ever non-Dethklok release Galaktikon later this month. Based on what has been released so far, this record sounds like it’s gonna be all kinds of awesome. The new track, ‘Prophecy of the Lazer Witch,’ is available for streaming of at Alt Press, and it’s one of the catchier songs on the record. I mean, dat intro lead, man.

Galaktikon is due out April 29th. You can pre-order it now in various forms over at Brendon Small’s official website, including vinyl and merch. Ow, my wallet.

Brendon Small‘s non-Dethklok project Galaktikon is looming on the horizon, and I’ve been excited for it since it was first announced. The so called “high stakes intergalactic extreme rock album” is a bit of a departure for Small; while maintaining his sense of melody evident in Dethklok, Galaktikon will feature heavy use of melodic singing and a more rock-oriented sound with influences from the self-described influences including Smashing Pumpkins and Queen. Don’t worry though, it’s plenty metal enough.

While Galaktikon is largely a vocal album, Small doesn’t neglect his guitar talents, as evident by the penultimate instrumental track ‘Dangertits,’ which is now available for streaming over at Guitar Squid. It’s the album’s sole instrumental track, and as you can tell, it has that signature Brendon Small sound. Hell, it’s a couple of growls away from sounding like a Dethklok track. It’s great stuff. Go give it a listen.

Brendon Small’s Galaktikon is due out April 24th, which is the Tuesday before the season premiere of Metalocalypse on Adult Swim. Pre-orders for Galaktikon will be available next week! For more updates, visit the project’s Facebook page.

“But Jimmy,” I hear you say. “How can you stop the presses on a digital format like WordPress?” To which I reply, “Shut your whore mouth, there are more important things to talk about.”

You may know him as the creative force behind Metalocalypse’s Dethklok, but he’s poised to release his new side project in the form of Galaktikon. It’s going to be a melodic rock/metal record that takes influence from pretty much everything Brendon heard growing up, from Queen to Weezer to Black Metal. Seems like an oddange to go by, but who knows what kind of genius Brendon Small would come up with. Finally, we have a new song to go by, and it is nothing short of amazing.

‘On My Way’ is a very catchy song that has clear influences from the likes of Megadeth and King Diamond, filled with spectacular riffs and solos. Go check it out over at CraveOnline!

Brendon Small’s Galaktikon is due out this April. Keep up with the project on Facebook for more information.

Brendon Small, creator (and pretty much everything else) of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse and Home Movies, is finally poised to release his side-project this year with Brendon Small’s GALAKTIKON. Described as a “High Stakes Intergalactic Extreme Rock album,” GALAKTIKON seemingly rips a page out of Devin Townsend‘s Ziltoid The Omniscient and will be an over-the-top rock opera of sorts with influences from modern black metal, Queen, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. Here’s what Brendon said in a statement:

“This album should be thought of as an audio comic book, an over acted chamber drama, a ridiculous premise that takes itself way too seriously all the way to the end,” states Brendon Small.

GALAKTIKON is pretty much Dethklok in a shiny melodic rock package, featuring legendary drummer Gene Hoglan and Dethklok live/studio bassist Bryan Beller, as well as retaining mixer/engineer Ulrich Wild. Obviously, this is quite the departure from Brendon’s work in Dethklok, but should be just as excellent given the roster’s quality!

Brendon Small’s GALAKTIKON is due out this April. We’ll follow up with more information as it becomes available! In the mean time, hit up the project on Facebook for up-to-date information!

I don’t really like kids. I swear, if I never see a diaper in my entire life, it’ll be too soon; and as for the ones with developing language and motor skills, don’t get me started. The human race is already to big, so I think I can be forgiven if I never procreate.

That said, I guess not all of them suck completely – and where metal’s concerned, it’s good to know that some of them are carrying the torch for the future generation, so that when we’re old and crotchety and don’t know what’s good any more, they’ll be there to blog about how rubbish djent is and how it was so 2010/2011.

Now, of course I don’t mean that terrible video of the kids covering several already terrible bands; we’ve all seen it, laughed, and made a poorly constructed national television sketch out of it.

No; I mean these kids:

Not only did they have the balls to cover Mastodon, one of the greatest modern metal bands, but they also had the skill to fucking pull it off. Right from the moment they had the foresight to bring in two extra drums to pound the toms for the opening to Blood Mountain classic “Crystal Skull“, they were on to something.

Now of course, it’s not perfect. The main drummer is pretty awesome, but they do slip out of time with each other from time to time. It’s to be expected though; most of them are teenagers, and so they’ve probably got that gangly, don’t-know-what-the-fuck-my-limbs-are-doing thing going on. Believe it or not, I was there once. But when your vocalist, four-foot nothing and probably still in junior high, has a go at aping Troy Sanders and Brent fucking Hinds and doesn’t completely suck, you’ve gotta give them massive credit.

There are a few other videos from the same show, including some older kids having a go at Dethklok.

Bottom line: I still don’t like children, but if I ever did spawn, you bet your ass they’re going to be tearing up some ‘Don.

Perhaps it’s just my dirty mind, but this gives me the idea that Metalocalypse/Dethklok man Brendan Small is about to get some ho-mo-sec-shul lovin’ from four big and/or hairy dudes plus Keith Buckley – all caught on camera for the new The Damned Things music video. Now I’ve heard of hardcore, but surely this would be the wrong end of the stick, so to speak?

Nah, I keed. The PRP are pretty spot on with their coverage, and I visit most days. Hey, I have to take every ‘lol’ I can get during the work day, right?

Mr. Small will be handling treatment/direction for the upcoming video for ‘We’ve Got A Situation Here’, from the upcoming album Ironiclast, which should be released on December 14th through Island/Def Jam.

The bands debut album “Ironiclast” is currently on track for a December 14th release date through Island/Def Jam.

A Metal Homecoming

I refused to put pictures of an actual homecoming, but this is basically what it looks like.

I am going to my first school dance tonight. It’s not because I’m a freshman in high school, I have just found a way to avoid every dance up to this point but EmocoreGF (I’m trying to teach her) comes with contract restrictions. Trust me, I don’t mind being with her, I’m going to make it fun no matter what, I just know exactly what type of music they are playing. The playlist will consist of rap, dance, maybe a country song, and then the classic “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day. This is really the only thing I’m not stoked about tonight. But this got me thinking of a world that was run by metalheads, like the world that Dethklok lives within, and what their playlist for a homecoming dance would be. And so, here are the top songs I would want to hear at a homecoming dance and the order I would play them in.
