What Heavy Blog Is Really Listening To – 6/23/17

For those who missed our last installment, We post biweekly updates covering what the staff at Heavy Blog have been spinning. Given the amount of time we spend on the site telling you about music that does not fall neatly into the confines of conventional “metal,” it should come as no surprise that many of us on staff have pretty eclectic tastes that range far outside of metal and heavy things. We can’t post about all of them at length here, but we can at least let you know what we’re actually listening to. For those that would like to participate as well (and please do) can drop a 3X3 in the comments, which can be made with tapmusic.net through your last.fm account, or create it manually with topsters.net. Also, consider these posts open threads to talk about pretty much anything music-related. We love hearing all of your thoughts on this stuff and love being able to nerd out along with all of you.

R.J. Ober of Magrudergrind: The Heavy Blog Is Heavy Interview

Unless you’ve been living completely under a rock (or just don’t listen to grindcore, who knows), you’ve most likely heard of Magrudergrind some time in the past 15 years. And all with good reason, of course. The band mixes a rapid fire grindcore style with a healthy dose of powerviolence, adding some truly sludgy, groovy breakdowns in between their blast beats for a fully vicious, infectious musical attack. The band further expands on this formula on their new record II, which shows a slightly more mature, rounded out Magrudergrind then ever before. We spoke with guitarist R.J. Ober about the making of II, their signing to Relapse Records, and the grindcore/powerviolence scene at large.

Dead In The Dirt Have ‘No Chain

Just how many great songs are there that start off with the classic call of ‘1, 2, 3, 4’? From the earliest days of outrageous (at the time) rock ‘n’ roll to the sleek and refined music of today, there have been countless tracks that all spark from that one simple…

Dead In The Dirt Enter The Pit Of Me

Although probably more renowned for fast and furious approach to crusty grindcore, Dead In The Dirt have taken a slightly more restrained method with their latest track release from their upcoming album The Blind Hole. ‘The Pit Of Me’ carves a plodding and almost lethargic riff into your skull with it’s entrance,…

Dead In The Dirt Cast The Blaring Eye

Do you have thirty seconds to spare? Good, then spend it wisely by listening to the first track unveiled from grindcore/powerviolence powerhouse Dead In The Dirt’s new album The Blind Hole. At a mere half a minute, you’d be forgiven for thinking that ‘The Blaring Eye’ may be just another brisk surge…
