Okay, shit. Today is just getting better and better. We’ve already alerted you to the new Ihsahn
track featuring Devin Townsend
‘s stunning guest vocals, but man oh man this is big news. You can now stream the first glimpse of the live mega-boxset release of all four Devin Townsend Project albums, By A Thread – Live In London
. The stream comes from MetalInjection
, and it showcases Dev and crew performing the hauntingly bombastic song, ‘Gato
‘, from the 2009 album, Ki.
I really don’t know what else to tell you other than it looks, and sounds fantastic. I’ve never been a fan of live DVDs or audio tracks, but I fucking want this! To everyone who was there in London last November, I envy the hell out of you.
Anyway, you can pre-order this monolith now. By A Thread is out June 19th through HevyDevy Records, and InsideOut Music. Enjoy!
Last week we directed your attention to a pretty nifty sampler from Candlelight Records which featured the world premier of the track “The Paranoid” from Ihsahn‘s upcoming solo release, Eremita. Now it seems other labels are ponying up and offering their own samplers, one of which is my favorite label, InsideOut Music. This short sampler features eight tracks from a wide selection of bands, but the overall emphasis of this download is progressive metal. There is a lot of really great bands on this, several of which have received tons of praise from us here at HBIH — Arjen Lucassen, The Safety Fire, Leprous — but there’s also some lesser known bands that you may not be all that familiar with, and their tracks are pretty great too!
To top this thing off the final track is a live rendition of the song “Addicted”, taken from Devin Townsend‘s upcoming live boxset release, By A Thread. Without giving too much away, or saying anything all too surprising, the song is amazing. Addicted is one of the best releases from Townsend, and it’s an album that really transitions well into the live format.
You can download the sampler here. You just have to give your email address and click a link to verify that you’re not a part of the Borg collective, but other than that the download process is much more fluid than that of Candlelight’s. Props to InsideOut and their great lineup.
Welcome to another issue of DEVWATCH! The always busy and very prolific Devin Townsend is hard at work on a plethora of new releases, and it’s oh so incredibly spoiling. I mean, how many bands put out five releases in four years and have them all be incredible? The dude is something special.
In addition to those releases, he’s now adding a new live DVD box set title By A Thread to his discography. Here’s the scoop:
Live DVD box set news! Yes, that’s right, yet another pretty box set will see the light of day soon… You may remember that we’ve recorded last year’s sold out shows in London where the DTP performed each of their albums in full (and then some) and we can now announce that the release has been dubbed ‘By A Thread – Live in London 2011’ and will be out June 18th in Europe and June 19th in North America. Four DVD discs will hold the each of the concerts including a shitload of extras and five CD’s will have all the audio with a separate CD for just the encores that were played. More details on exact content and where to pre-order this beauty will be announced soon.
So excited! Chris got to watch Deconstruction being performed, and swears to its glory. We won’t have to live vicariously through his words or lame bootleg YouTube videos anymore, because you’ll soon get to see it from the comfort of your own home. Good Guy Devin, right there.
Mark it down. By A Thread will be out by June 19th on Century Media/InsideOut Music.
I think I’ve sung the praises of Townsend enough for you guys, so instead this time I’m just going to direct your attention to a recent interview the man underwent with Noisecreep. In it the man discusses the upcoming By A Thread release, Epicloud, Ziltoid, and his current touring plans. For those too lazy to read the full thing, I’ve taken it upon myself to give you all the rundown on the things discussed:
– He’s submitted the audio mixes for By A Thread.
– The cover art for By A Thread is done.
– The shows will be released on 10 discs; 4 DVDs and 4 audio discs (one for each night), a disc of bonus footage, and a disc for the encores.
– The encores will feature songs from Ghost 2, Devin’s back catalog, and songs from Punky Brüster.
– Devin Townsend Project has five dates from February 25th to March 5th in Australia coming up during the Soundwave Festival.
– After the final Australian date, Townsend will began recording drums for the upcoming Epicloud release.
– Describes Epicloud as new agey, jazzy stuff.
– First record he feels comfortable featuring a wide array of emotions on.
– Will feature a gospel choir, string section, and a horn section.
– Townsend’s October 27th concert at the London Roundhouse, The Retinal Circus: The Devil Townsend Project is already sold out.
– The concert will feature a full orchestra and circus performers.
– The DTP are set to headline the sidestage at this years Download festival
– Devin plans to do the Ziltoid musical in London, like the aforementioned Retinal Circus, and By A Thread release.
Welp, that’s all for now. As always, we’ll keep you updated if anything else is announced. Cheers!
If you remember being envious of the British last fall, it was likely because of Devin Townsend Project‘s 4-night live performance of the project’s complete discography. Chris was lucky enough to have made it for the Deconstruction set, and we lived vicariously through Chris’ write-up of the show. I’m still green with jealous rage over it.
It’s looking like I won’t have to remain bitter for much longer, as a DVD containing the performances of all four sets is set to be available! According to Devin, the box set will go by the title By A Thread, and will be out this summer! I can’t wait!
We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
