Tag Archive: Bears Mayors Scraps and Bones

…and it took the release of the video for their new track ‘Old Blood‘ to snap me into realisation. I guess I was too distracted by the deliciously Satanic prospect of them playing six shows in London this April in the shape of a pentagram. Hmm, yes.

Ah well, better late than never!

So yes, the track will feature on Dead Set On Living, Cancer Bats‘ fourth album, which will be out on April 17th, which the band have described as more upbeat than their last effort Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones, and will actually be less of a ‘traditional’ hardcore record. Vocalist Liam Cornier said of it:

“In a lot of ways we get really inspired by non-metal bands. For me, I find I really like looking at other things because I just don’t want to make a traditional hardcore record lyrically. So for me, I listen to a lot of indie rock and I’ve been getting super psyched on a lot of that, like the new ‘Helplessness Blues’ by Fleet Foxes”

Furthermore, the record is rumoured to feature Dez Fafara of DevilDriver and Kate Cooper of An Horse on the song ‘Bastards‘. Should be interesting. Anyway, enough waffling; here’s the video!

I always wondered where Cancer Bats got the idea for their name. What is a cancer bat exactly? Is it a bat made of entirely of cancer? A bat with cancer? Or does it feast on cancer, as its fruity bretheren does on mangoes and pomegranates? Om-nom-nom.

I guess that’s a long-winded way of saying that I don’t quite get Cancer Bats. I guess it follows, them being Canadian and all…ah, I kid with the Canadian gags, but whatever it is, I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Bats Bother Beastie Boys

Or at least they try to, in the promo video for their cover of ‘Sabotage’. With mildly entertaining results. Crazy Candians.

To be honest, I was completely unaware that Cancer Bats were releasing an album this year. I like them, but have never been overly into them, which is weird, because they’re exactly the kind of band I should love, a-la Every Time I Die.

This album has the potential to change that though. I really really like this song, and as a result will probably be getting Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones when it hits stores on April 13th.

Job done, promotional advertising. Job done.
