Apologies for the flippant headline! No offense at all if you’re super stoked to see this tour, but save for Volumes (who really should be higher on the bill), there’s not much at all here I could get behind. Sorry! If you’re a regular reader, then you’re probably like me and find hardcore dancing to be hilariously awful. With a lineup like this, it’s almost a guarantee. Try to count how many scenebro mullets you can find and get back to me. I know if last year’s Summer Slaughter had a bunch of them in wife beaters and v-necks, it’s obvious this tour will have them in spades.

We’re a little behind on this, so forgive the lateness of this, but we’ve been….busy or something.

We’ve never heard of this Mureau before. They’re probably a new band. From this track they seem to be a djent band – or progressive metalcore if you prefer that moniker – which is not really my genre, but I enjoy good bands within the genre from time to time, and I enjoyed Mureau.

Anyway, apparently their vocalist Taylor Voeltz is a producer/engineer who has worked on records by the likes of As Blood Runs BlackSuffokate, Betrayal and Hundredth (I don’t know if this is any indication of the quality we’re to expect, but he could have told As Blood Runs Black to ditch the breakdowns on their last record). The big news is that they’ve just been signed by Mediaskare Records, and have put out the following track as a sort of introduction to the world.

["off of"? C'mon Mediaskare...]

Bedroom Eyes” is from the group’s debut album Rumors And Reputations, which is due out this summer on – you guessed it – Mediaskare Records! Check out the album art in more details after the jump.

[Part I | Part II]

We have again arrived on the negative side of scratchy band logos. Those who have stuck it out so far have seen some highs and some lows, experience emotions they’ve never felt before, and exercised muscles they didn’t know they had. Now we get into the really nitty-gritty. The worst of the worst. The creme de la creme of faux textures, distressed fonts and cheesy photoshop warp filters. Here are the worst scratchy band logos numbers 5 through 1.

5. ALL SHALL PERISH

This one is tough because I love All Shall Perish so much. However as I said to the kids I bullied in elementary school, I tease you because I want you to be better. Everyone knows that you should stay away from warp effects in photoshop. Unfortunately whoever created this textured monstrosity missed that memo. I’m not a fan of blackletter typefaces to begin with and the stretching and vectorization of this one did not lead to a pleasing result.

Well, compared to last year’s excellent lineup, this one’s a step down. I was expecting more of a Sumerian Records influence, as they’re normally involved the most, and with The Faceless, TRAM/Animals as Leaders (presumably) having albums coming out with Born of Osiris coming off a critically acclaimed album, I was totally expecting this to be dominated by Sumerian Records. Not a single band from their roster on this year!

No doubt, Powerglove and Fleshgod Apocalypse will provide an excellent time, bit the rest is quite lacking. Oceano? As Blood Runs Black? Six Feet Under? Avoiding like the plague. I honestly have no opinion on Dying Fetus and Whitechapel are completely unoffensive to me, but I’m sure Darkest Hour and The Black Dahlia Murder no doubt putting on relatively good shows, but this is just lacking the huge power that last year’s tour had.

As of this post, they’ve yet to reveal tour dates. We’ll be sure to let you know when the word is dropped!

You know, back in the day I really used to be into As Blood Runs Black. They were melodic, fast, and had good drumming and moderately interesting vocals and guitar playing. By no means were they the most amazingly mindblowing band out there, but they were pretty listenable. But that was in 2006 when Allegiance came out. Things have changed since then; deathcore has evolved, and people have gotten bored of the whole “melodic riff, followed by breakdown” thing by now. The question is, has As Blood Runs Black changed with the times? Not really. Is that a good thing? Up to you.

Good morning folks! Here’s a rundown of this week’s new releases, as always.

Across The Sun – Before The Night Takes Us (Metal Blade)
Arkhum – Anno Universum (Vendlus)
As Blood Runs Black – Instinct (Mediaskare)
Assaulter – Boundless (Metal Blade)
Blood Ceremony – Living With The Ancients (Rise Above)
Cannibal Corpse – Global Evisceration DVD (Metal Blade)
Deadlock – Bizarro World (Lifeforce)
Fell Voices – Untitled (Gilead)
Ken Mode – Venerable (Profound Lore)
Kvelertak – Kvelertak (The End)
Mastodon – Live At The Aragon DVD (Reprise)
Nekromantheon – Divinity of Death (Vendlus)
Northless – Clandestine Abuse (Gilead)
Rotten Sound – Cursed (Relapse)
Serenity – Death & Legacy (Napalm)
Trap Them – Darker Handcraft (Prosthetic)
Visons Of Atlantis – Delta (Napalm)
Weedeater – Jason..The Dragon (Southern Lord)

Kvelertak is finally seeing an official US release. It’s about time! If you haven’t heard this blackened party rock band, do it now; Chris gave the guys an exceptional review. Damien thinks that new Rotten Sound is one of the finer records available so far this year, which you should definitely get your hands on if you’re a fan of grind. Gein reviewed Deadlock back in January, pretty much to the tune of “it’s alright.” Apparently it just now saw a US release.

We should have reviews of the new Across The Sun, As Blood Runs Black, Trap Them, and Weedeater albums this week as well, so keep an eye out for those! Have a good one, folks!

This past summer has been full of great tours here in North America, and one of the ones I’ve been most excited for is the Over The Limit Tour. With a fairly solid lineup of mostly techy deathcore bands, with a few exceptions, I was expecting a pretty good show. I’ll go ahead and tell you I was disappointed with what some of them had to offer, but the show only cost me $10 and it was only an hour drive to Ground Zero in Spartanburg SC from where I live so I’m not complaining.

Yesterday, a new Oceano tour was announced in the way of the Over The Limit Tour, in which they co-headline with As Blood Runs Black. Normally when I see headlines such as this in my RSS Feed, I ignore them. But this time, I had to take a look, as Arsonists Get All The GirlsThe Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, and Circle of Contempt are also on the tour. Circle of Contempt are good, but Danza and Arsonists are god-tier in the scene as far as I’m concerned and them touring together is enough for my pants to get a little tight. The fact that they have to open for this shit deathcore band Oceano is proof that there is no justice in this world.

Also in the lineup: Thick as Blood, Burning The Masses, Blindwitness, with Sons of Aurelius and This or the Apocalypse on select dates. I don’t particularly care enough about any of them, but that’s besides the point. Danza and Arsonists are going to be on tour together. Get excited.

Here’s the plan: Show up, see show, leave before Oceano comes on.

Here are the dates for the tour:

July 23 – Lake Station, IN @ Lake Station Eagles Hall
July 24 – Evansville, IN @ Boney Junes
July 25 – Toledo, OH @ Headliners
July 26 – Grand Rapids, MI @ The Intersection
July 27 – Pittsburgh, PA @ Altar Bar
July 28 – Reading, PA @ The Silo
July 29 – Poughkeepsie, NY @ The Loft
July 30 – Vineland, NJ @ Hangar 84
July 31 – Worcester, MA @ The Palladium (w/ Summer Slaughter)
August 1 – Springfield, VA @ Jaxx
August 2 – Fayetteville, NC @ The Rock Shop
August 3 – Spartanburg, SC @ Ground Zero
August 5 – Jacksonville, FL @ The Pit
August 6 – Orlando, FL @ H2O Live
August 7 – Douglasville, GA @ The 7 Venue
August 8 – Memphis, TN @ New Daisy Theatre
August 9 – Tulsa, OK @ Marquee Theatre
August 10 – Tyler, TX @ Knights of Columbus
August 12 – Corpus Christi, TX @ House of Rock
August 13 – McAllen, TX @ Las Palmas Event Center
August 14 – Austin, TX @ Emos
August 15 – Wichita Falls, TX The Hanger
August 16 – Amarillo, TX @ The War Legion
August 17 – Colorado Springs, CO @ The Black Sheep
August 19 – El Paso, TX @ Club 101
August 20 – Tucson, AZ @ Rialto Theatre
August 21 – Pomona, CA @ Glasshouse

Nothing close enough for me to see. Bummer.
