2011 was an absolutely absurd year for not only metal, but music in general. Such marvelous records from the best names in music. But no doubt that you know this, so lets not waste time, eh?

Aaaaaaaand yet another awesome tour for you North American types this autumn, this time with seminal screamo outfit Circle Takes The Square.

CTTS have been quiet for quite some time now, but they’re set to release their new album Decompositions: Volume I sometime this November, and I’m pretty stoked on that shit.

There’s no set support, but most of the dates will feature several of City of Ships, Touché Amoré and Pianos Become The Teeth. A couple also feature Thou, who are rather excellent.

More details to come on those last few shows, and we’ll try and get those to you when they come our way.

There’s are also tentative details coming through about shows from The Chariot with VannaThe Crimson ArmadaFormer Thieves and Listener (whose frontman Dan Smith is the guy who does the intense spoken-word section on David De La Hoz). More details on that too when they are announced.

So fall’s looking pretty good for you guys as far as tours go. I’m not sure what the national coverage is like, but between the Between the Buried and Me/Animals As Leaders/TesseracT, Devin Townsend Project/The Ocean, Mastodon/Dillinger, Decapitated/Decrepit Birth/Fleshgod ApocalypseEnslaved/Alcest, Kvelertak/Skeletonwitch, The Black Dahlia Murder/All Shall PerishAna Kefr and The Bled runs, you’re bound to be able to see something cool (unless you live in the arse-end of nowhere, eh JR?). Just look at that list. Phew!

The Burial Tree (II) is out on Muse Sick Records.  I reviewed the record and gave it our highest honor, so I can honestly say that if you don’t own it, you’re an idiot.

So I decided to do what Dan did on a slow news day. This list is in no particular order. Enjoy.

1) Smaragos – “Furnace

This song is so good.  So many layers happening at the same time makes for a chaotic but memorable experience.  The numerous influences are shown, and that tabla/sitar solo just blows me away.

2) Red Fang – “Wires

I love new music that harkens back to old times.  This huge fest of stoner rock is a perfect example.  The vocalist has such a great voice, and the riff is beyond catchy.  The whole album is this good, so check it out immediately.

Every now and again, an album comes that changes the face of metal - Between the Buried and Me‘s Colors and Strapping Young Lad’s City both spring to mind. They raised metal to new levels of creativity and catapult that band to almost overnight stardom. Which brings me to Ana Kefr, a five-piece band from Riverside, California.  They formed in mid-2008 and released their debut, Volume 1.  One year later they released the single “Tonight We Watch the Children Fucking Burn.” Not much noise was made, but now, with The Burial Tree (II), Ana Kefr have released what will no doubt become a landmark LP in the metal community.

Falling under the theme of Prog-Metal March, Ana Kefr are streaming a new song via YouTube entitled “Thaumatrope” from their upcoming album The Burial Tree (II), set for a May 3rd release.  I cannot wait to hear this album, as it has received rave reviews from those lucky enough to have heard the album already.

For anyone unfamiliar with Ana Kefr, listen to their single celebrating the one year anniversary of their debut, Volume 1, eloquently titled “Tonight We Watch the Children Fucking Burn“.
