To anybody who doesn’t know who Jacob Bannon is, he is the lead singer/lyricist/artist of one of, if not the best, hardcore band of all time, Converge. They released an album last year (which was my album of the year) and also did a few festivals and a full-fledged tour. And now we have something else that we can enjoy: a whole documentary about Jacob Bannon, filmed by Ian McFarland.

Being my favorite lyricist and also one of my favorite artists, I think this kicks ass. It’s nice to see people get the recognition that they truly deserve, and it couldn’t have happen to a nicer guy. Anybody that dedicates an album to his dog that passed away deserves all of the medals forever. You can watch the film at Noisey. And if you haven’t yet, (which shouldn’t be the case), go spin All We love We Leave Behind. It’s purely amazing.

Every now and then there’s a particular album on the horizon that is long-awaited and has fans frothing at the mouth (or more importantly the ears) for the chance to hear it. Now while this year has produced quite a few of those albums, the one that has been on my radar comes from the legendary hardcore band Converge. Now for those familiar with the band’s blend of hardcore and punk, a sound that is both chaotic and straight from the heart, it’s hard to be disappointed by any of their releases, both past and present. And after 2009′s Axe To Fall, which sounded like the band cranked their amps to eleven, all that came to mind was, “How are they going to top this?”. Well, three years have passed since then, and with only a handful of singles that merely held the fans at bay, Converge are finally set to release their eighth full-length album, the highly anticipated, All We Love We Leave Behind. And after such a long wait, all that’s left to wonder is… Will this be an album fans love or will they simply leave it behind? View Full Article »

Everyones favorite hardcore/metal act Converge, have just made their soon to be skull-crushing full-length album, All We Love We Leave Behind, available for pre-order via Kingsroadmerch, with plenty of bundle packages to choose from, including a limited edition deluxe cd in a hardcover, clothbound book with an embossed silver foil cover. And for you vinyl junkies, a limited edition vinyl is also available on frontman Jacob Bannon’s Deathwish Inc. label. I made sure to snag one of these beauties to call my own before they sell out, which they no doubt will.

The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Kurt Ballou (who never disappoints), with the rest of the band helping out in other aspects of the production. No fake distortion, no triggered drums, and no outside collaborations, this new album is pure Converge. And after listening to this new song, as well as recently seeing them perform a few of the new tunes live, it’s safe to say that Converge have once again captured their raw/chaotic power, and are prepared to give us what I believe will be one of the best (and my most anticipated) albums of the year. Mark my words.

All We Love We Leave Behind will be unleashed October 9th on Epitaph Records, and be sure to catch them on their upcoming tour. Now sit back and enjoy the video (directed by Max Moore) for the opening track “Aimless Arrow”. Rage!

Howdy folks, it’s been a while since I last posted on Heavy Blog. Life has been quite the roller coaster ride as of lately, between buying a house, getting married and becoming unemployed, I haven’t had much time or the heart to write — but now that the wedding has passed, and things have slowed down a bit, I wanted to get back in the groove of writing again.

Enough blabbering about my life though, lets get to the matter at hand. Recently I was lucky enough to attend a show that featured a few bands that not only encompass my love of music, but are also the foundation for the guy I am today. This past Saturday, May 26th, I headed off to Manhattan to a venue called Le Poisson Rouge, where I was about to treat my ears to some Grade-A hardcore.

Limited print of the shows flyer!

As I began my trek towards Manhattan, where I found myself traveling solo (which is fine, as I have a sort of lone wolf personality, and don’t mind being alone), I still relied on my trusty traveling companion to accompany me though… good ‘ol Mr.Coffee. So, with coffee in hand I made my way down I-495 towards the city, and after taking one wrong exit that set me back a bit, and killing time looking for a spot near the venue, I finally found a choice spot and was ready to rock, and perhaps roll if the situation called for it. To make up for lost time (already having missed Xaddax and Indecision), I was quick to dash to the venue in hopes of not missing out on the one band that always puts a smile on my face and a ringing in my ears; Converge!

Well this is quite a nice pick me up for the new year! Without a doubt one of my favorite bands in the entire spectrum of music, Converge, are set to begin recording their eighth full-length album, the tentatively titled All We Love We Leave Behind (as stated in Decibel magazine), which is the follow-up to their brain shattering album Axe To Fall. According to theprp, it was announced on New Year’s Day that the band had finished writing material for their newest album, and that they would be recording soon.

Guitarist/producer Kurt Ballou had this to say via his Facebook:

Busy month – currently mixing a Torche record their bassist, Jon recorded, then mixing a Frank Turner tune, then Converge practice, then more High on Fire recording and mixing, then Converge record! Woohoo!

Woohoo indeed. I kind of expected them to release a new album this year, but this definitely confirms it! The real question though, is it to early to start my best of 2012 list? Because this will surely be on it!
