Here’s another tour for you folks to throw all of your money at: All Shall Perish has a headlining tour coming up in April featuring support from Carnifex, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Conducting from the Grave, and The Contortionist. Most of this lineup is absolutely stellar, and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you which band will serve as my so-called “beer break,” (and I don’t even drink). Here’s a hint: I’ve seen them twice already.

Okay, it’s Carnifex. Sorry. They get a good audience reaction and they’re really cool guys in person, but they’re not my cup of tea. I’ve never seen Fleshgod Apocalypse or The Contortionist live though, and I am quite excited at the prospect of seeing them finally perform. Fleshgod Apocalypse had one of the best death metal records last year with Agony, and The Contortionist are arguably the future of prog and are easily the best deathcore band out there. Having them both on the same bill makes the show and the trip out worth it. I’ve heard that both bands are excellent live, so I look forward to seeing them.

Woah, I didn’t really see this coming. After a great year and critical acclaim for their latest album The Discovery, Born of Osiris apparently fired their guitarist Jason Richardson.

To all of our fans and followers, we have decided to part ways with guitarist Jason Richardson. This was something that just needed to happen. We will be a more creative, energized, and focused unit as a result. The past year was the band’s most successful and we owe it all to our amazing fans. We promise everyone that 2012 will see us take further steps to bringing every aspect of our band to a new level. We couldn’t possibly be more excited for what the future holds.

Also, since the finishing touches were put on The Discovery we’ve already been in the process of writing our next album. The past month and next two we will be home writing and finalizing the record that will be released this summer/fall.

Big news coming soon regarding our summer touring schedule, we can’t wait to see all of you again soon with some new music to play for you!

On top of the split, Richardson has recently joined Chelsea Grin as a fill-in guitarist. Richardson is no stranger to band hopping, either; after replacing Chris Storey in All Shall Perish in 2009, he quit the next year to join BoO. I’m also a bit surprised that they already have another record preparing for release this year. Was the greatness of The Discovery due to Richardson joining or was it the direction the band were already heading?

Jason seems to think it’s the former. Not long after the announcement of the split, Jason gave his side of the story:

Just to clarify to everyone I did NOT quit Born of Osiris, I would have never been able to bring myself to do such a thing no matter how much tension was between us. All of those dudes were essentially my family, I lived in the same house as them for over 2 years. This was by no means at all my decision(not that I was involved in the decision in any way shape or form lol). I have been fired from the band because I, “don’t agree with the way they want to live their lives” and “it felt like their dad was in the band.” So instead of confronting me about my eeeendless bitching about their excessive drinking and assorted drug abuse they decided that calling me at 130 in the morning 4 days before christmas while I’m home visiting family to tell me that all of my belongings from the new BOO house were in my trailer on the way to me in VA was the professional way to handle it. So i can say with pride that I will NEVER play another note on stage with the group of cowards that is Born of Osiris. I don’t give a fuck what they think of me for putting their personal stuff out there, I want everyone to see them for who they really are. Im just happy the truth finally came out and now I know what truly matters to them and it is NOT putting out albums like The Discovery.

Aaaaaaaand yet another awesome tour for you North American types this autumn, this time with seminal screamo outfit Circle Takes The Square.

There’s are also tentative details coming through about shows from The Chariot with VannaThe Crimson ArmadaFormer Thieves and Listener (whose frontman Dan Smith is the guy who does the intense spoken-word section on David De La Hoz). More details on that too when they are announced.

So fall’s looking pretty good for you guys as far as tours go. I’m not sure what the national coverage is like, but between the Between the Buried and Me/Animals As Leaders/TesseracT, Devin Townsend Project/The Ocean, Mastodon/Dillinger, Decapitated/Decrepit Birth/Fleshgod ApocalypseEnslaved/Alcest, Kvelertak/Skeletonwitch, The Black Dahlia Murder/All Shall PerishAna Kefr and The Bled runs, you’re bound to be able to see something cool (unless you live in the arse-end of nowhere, eh JR?). Just look at that list. Phew!

A headlining slot on this year’s Summer Slaughter Tour isn’t enough for The Black Dahlia Murder apparently, because this fall, the band will be embarking on another headlining tour, and they’re bringing along All Shall Parish and Cannabis Corpse. One of these bands are not like the others…

At any rate, this tour should be pretty cool. You want dates? We got… most of them:

All Shall Perish Release Video

All Shall Perish have released a video for the track “There is Nothing Left“, which comes from their splendid album This is Where it Ends.  Basically, it’s nothing more than a performance shot in total darkness, but it’s nice to see humans unleash that much ownage on video.

This is Where it Ends is currently out on Nuclear Blast, and you should definitely get on that.

The genre of deathcore has a few gems worth raving about. Most of them are progressive in nature, but there are a couple that straight up bring the genre into a positive light without any qualms. Last year, I made a list of what I felt were the top five deathcore albums in existence, and All Shall Perish‘s opus Awaken the Dreamers took my number one spot. Much has changed in the past couple of years in the ASP camp though, what with a lineup change resulting in a new drummer and a lead guitarist. This could have spelled disaster and left many (myself included) to wonder whether or not they could pull off a decent follow-up, but somehow ASP managed to pull it together and put much of those fears to rest on This Is Where It Ends.

We love more than our fair share of tech-wizardry here at Heavy Blog. Animals as Leaders, Scale The Summit, and countless other shredntities and eponymous projects have captured our attention over the years. We’re suckers for instrumental music when it’s done right, plain and simple — but what makes or breaks an instrumental project? Tough question, and I’m glad you asked. Allow me to use The Francesco Artusato Project as an example of what not to do.

Today I would like to discuss a recent trend in the field of album artwork as it pertains to metal bands. When you think about the artwork of most metal albums, images of skulls, demons, fire and misogyny spring to mind. Metal is supposed to be evil and the artwork is supposed to reflect that right? In the past this was the case. Cliched imagery, was combined with a mono- or duo-chromatic colour palette to create something dark and unsettling. Blue implies coldness, red symbolizes fire, purple is alien, etc. A combination of sickly green and blue are used to startle and disgust the viewer. Of course there are exceptions to the rule but in the majority of cases, the design and execution of metal album artwork has followed strict, unwritten rules.

But things are different now. Metal musicians can have short hair, merch can be neon, and a genre called djent can exist and be taken seriously. So what does this mean for album artwork? Perhaps you have seen the signs already, noticed the changes, album art is no longer the one colour festival of evil that it used to be. Bands are embracing warm and varied colour palettes, comforting textures, landscape images and even sunshine! Gasp, you say! I’m not just talking about scene golems who have embraced all over print design like your nearest BAPE outlet (LOL at this image). I’m talking about bands that are lauded by critics and recognized as talented and original.

Let’s examine some evidence.

One of our favourite metal sites (besides ourselves, obviously), Lambgoat, have landed the premiere for Californian deathcore quintet All Shall Perish‘s new track ”Procession of Ashes“, which will feature on their upcoming album This Is Where It Ends.

We’ve got some division around the Heavy Blog campfire. Last summer, Jimmy named their 2008 album Awaken the Dreamers as the top reason why deathcore is actually redeemable, and not completely full of horseshit. There are elements of Awaken the Dreamers, but Jimmy and Pete aren’t too convinced I don’t think. I haven’t yet formed an opinion, but then again the genre isn’t particularly my bag, and I’m mostly filling a hole here whilst His Lordship holds ice to his face.

So; wha’tchoo lot think?

This Is Where It Ends is out Nuclear Blast on July 26th, and the band will be part of this summer’s Mayhem Fest (vague dates here thanks to Unearth).

I’m eagerly anticipating All That Perish‘s follow up to the spectacular Awaken the Dreamers, and so should you!  To keep us satiated, they’ve released a couple of updates so we can keep watch on their antics.

Despite the fact that there are no drums on this, it’s still pretty fucking hilarious.

Pretty awesome, right? Right! That solo Francesco Artusato does on that track is monstrous.  He had monstrous shoes to fill with Chris Storey’s departure, but it’s sounding like he can definitely handle it in it’s own right.

The new album This is Where it Ends releases July 26 in America and July 29 in Europe.  Prepare yourself.
