Those Swedish dudes in the band Soilwork recently posted a blog thing describing what it’s like every day touring. If you’re like me and aren’t touring then this post might be a bit insightful to those who are curious. It’s not the most elaborate thing in the world, but you have to give respect to those who put up with the seemingly mind-numbing tasks for the sake of our entertainment. I’d probably kill myself. Nevertheless, it’s a short, interesting read. You can read it here.

A Post Made of Babies

Upon being shown this band, Made Out of Babies, I made the quickest attempt to check out more from them after hearing the track “Cooker” on the album The Ruiner. Nary a band comes by that is metal with a female vocalist, let alone one as jarring, and worthwhile as Julie Christmas. For an overall atmosphere, this group carries an atmosludge feel similar to Neurosis or Harvey Milk, but with occasional dissonant guitar jangles and other nuances that set them so far apart from the aforementioned groups. So far the group has three releases, Trophy, Coward, and The Ruiner. If those other two are as good as The Ruiner is, I’d suggest checking them out for sure. You can also catch a few of their tracks on We Reach: The Music of the Melvins and Triad, a split with some post-sludge bands.

Go listen to CHON.

The drummer in my band recently discovered this group from California, and although they are unsigned, their music is so great that I couldn’t help but share them with you guys. If you like Scale The Summit or An Endless Sporadic, then you’ll probably dig this. I personally like CHON‘s music better than that of both those bands, and that’s saying a lot. They play really happy sounding instrumental metal, and it’s all very tight and technical with some catchy stuff thrown in too.

You can check the band out on their myspace or better yet, head over to their purevolume page where you can download all of their music for free! What’s better than legally free happy music?

I’ve talked about this song enough, I think, but I still thought this was worth sharing. I love it when metal songs are transferred to piano. It’s a sign of good songwriting when a song transfers well across instruments, and this is just beautiful. Spot on performance, lilcurryman. This is great.

The original song, if you’ve somehow haven’t heard it, is after the jump.

Sorry if you guys have missed me for the past three weeks. I’m a busy man with busy plans. But school has finally finished for me so that means this summer is finally free for me. I have a little planned but not so much. I will be gone on the second to last week of June and then the first week of August but otherwise I am pretty much free. I’m not planning on going to many shows if any, which sucks. That was my summer’s resolution originally because I usually go to two or three a summer so I was planning on going to four or five this summer but with neither the Scream the Prayer tour or the Summer Slaughter tour coming within a five hour drive, I’m not going to many shows if any. I might go see Every Time I Die (who was the first band I ever saw live so it would awesome to have some nostalgia), Norma Jean (who I love all of their material and don’t get why people hate the newer stuff even though it’s different from the old stuff), and Cancer Bats(who are just a fun time). Otherwise, maybe see some indie music by seeing Thao with The Get Down Stay Down at a restaurant that’s about 45 minutes away but otherwise I probably won’t be going to that many concerts.

New Nachtmystium album has hit the internet, folks. If this is your kind of thing, jump on it, check it out, and pick it up when it drops next week, June 8th, on Century Media Records.

It appears that the deathcore giants in Whitechapel have had their upcoming album leak. Due out next week, A New Era of Corruption is a step up from previous efforts, but it is unlikely to change the minds of the haters.

So it leaked and is out there somewhere, due out June 8th on Metal Blade Records.

Temple of Darkness Records has finally released Ihsahn‘s third solo album After on vinyl, and as you can see above, it’s a gatefold double white marble LP, limited to 500 copies. If you enjoyed this album (as you should have) you should totally hit this up before it’s too late. It goes for roughly $21 (from 17 Euros), but with the overseas postage, it’ll cost you about $42.42 (holy shit).

To get it, send an email at tod(at)templeofdarknessrecords(dot)com with your order, country, and preferred method of payment. Paypal is your best bet here.

So excuse me while I go broke for Ihsahn.

Fuck yeah, Trent knows how to please the fans.

The much talked about How To Destroy Angels project featuring Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig, and Atticus Ross have a release date for their debut EP: Next week, June 1st. And not only that, in recent Reznor standard, there will be a free downloadable version available

Via HTDA’s Store:

We’re releasing our debut 6-track EP as a FREE download on June 1st. Pre-order now and get one track, “The Believers,” immediately. You’ll then be automatically emailed on June 1st as soon as the full EP download is ready. The EP will be delivered as high-quality DRM-free MP3s.

For $2, you can pre-order the HD package, which adds options for lossless audio (24-bit 44.1kHz WAV and 16-bit FLAC and Apple Lossless) and the music video for “The Space in Between” in 1080p Quicktime.

There are other packages available, including limited shirts and physical releases. The store is currently experiencing some high traffic loads, so as of the time of me writing this post, the page only loads about half the time, with the other half being just text and an audio player where you can stream “The Believers.” Also, according to the HTDA Twitter, vinyl will be available at some point, with a date to be announced. I’m going to be hitting that up for sure.

Here’s the track list for the EP:

01 – “The Space In Between
02 – “Parasite
03 – “Fur-Lined
04 – “BBB
05 – “The Believers
06 – “A Drowning

Again, free download of the EP next week, with the physical CD release available July 6th on Null Records. I can’t wait!
