Orbs Tourbs!

Whilst not fresh news, we thought it worth mentioning that cross-country prog supergroup Orbs will be touring from the middle of next month into September in support of their long-awaited debut album Asleep Next To Science. Not only is this an exciting and probably rare opportunity to see something a little bit special, but it’s also mentionable because our review will be coming next week!

This extremely talented and unique band is the brain-child of Between the Buried and Me‘s bassist Dan Briggs and Cradle of Filth keyboardist Ashley Ellyllon, and also features two members of Fear Before.

Dates as follows:

19th August – Legitimate Business – Greensboro, NC (Launch show)
20th August – Skull Alley – Louiseville, KY
21st August – The End – Nashville, TN
22nd August – Juanita’s – Little Rock, AR
23rd August – Rubber Gloves – Denton, TX
24th August – Red 7 – Austin, TX
26th August – The Underground – Phoenix, AZ
27th August – Radio Room – San Diego, CA
28th August – Cobalt Cafe – Los Angeles, CA
29th August – Bottom of the Hill – San Francisco, CA
31st August – Backspace – Portland, OR
1st September – Studio 7 – Seattle, WA
2nd September – Redroom – Boise, ID
3rd September – Kilby Court – Salt Lake City, UT
4th September – Marquis Theatre – Denver, CO
5th September – Waiting Room – Omaha, NE

All tour dates are with Junius, and they are joined at the launch show by Braveyoung.

Check back next week for the official verdict on crazy roof-bound preachers and tea parties with bears. You ‘eard.

So I just stumbled upon this article written by Every Time I Die frontman Keith Buckley. It’s basically a big rant about the sad state of our sub-culture, where people with no talent can get together and call themselves a ‘band’, get a bunch of 14 year-old scene kids to be their fan base, get on warped tour and get rich because of their ‘music’. He even calls out a few bands by name, which I found enjoyable. I’m not really even a fan of Every Time I Die, but this is a great article and Keith makes some very good points. Check it out, unless you’re in love with Attack Attack! or some other similiar ‘band’.

Our bros at The Number Of The Blog have landed a tour sponsorship, and it’s one hell of a first step with Iron Thrones and Last Chance To Reason. Fuck me sideways, that’s a killer lineup.

Here are the tour dates:

7/29/10 Chicago, IL @ The Double Door w/ The Alaya Conscious, Hessler
7/31/10 Columbus, OH @ The Summit w/ The C.O.A.S.T., Artillery Breath
8/01/10 Aliquippa, PA @ The Fallout Shelter w/ Sathanas, Dethlehem
8/02/10 Brooklyn, NY@ The Charleston w/ East of the Wall, Name, & more!
8/03/10 Allenstown, NH @ Ground Zero w/ TBA
8/04/10 Worcester, MA @ Tammany Hall w/ Irepress, Frozen
8/05/10 Philadelphia, PA @ The M Room w/ Monolith, Willing Swords
8/07/10 Spartanburg, SC @ Ground Zero w/ TBA
8/10/10 Clarksville, TN @ The Coup w/ Evolve or Die
8/11/10 Nashville, TN @ The Muse w/ TBA
8/12/10 St. Louis, MO @ The Firebird w/ Ashes and Iron
8/13/10 Marshalltown, IA @ The American Legion w/ Anno Domine, Tony Rocky Horror

If you live near any of those stops and plan on going, e-mail the guys at streetteam(at)ironthrones(dot)com for details on what you can do to help promote. The more people who go to these shows, the more likely it will be that the band can tour again. This is a team effort guys, so spread the word!

Also, if you are in a (g00d) band and can make it to the Allenstown, Spartanburg, Clarksville, Nashville, and Marshalltown shows, you can be put in a support slot and open up for Iron Thrones and Last Chance To Reason! Send those inquiries over to booking(at)ironthrones(dot)com.

This should be a killer show if you can make it. I can’t, so take advantage of this tour, as it is most awesome. Be sure to tell the rest of us all about it so we can live through you vicariously.

Heavy Blog Is Heavy will be hitting up this year’s Summer Slaughter tour with Decapitated, The Faceless, The Red Chord, All Shall Perish, Veil of Maya, Cephalic Carnage, Decrepit Birth, Carnifex, Animals as Leaders, and Vital Remains. It really is the biggest extreme metal tour hitting America this summer. I mean, what other option is there? Mayhem and Ozzfest? Get the fuck out of my office.

So I’ll be hitting up the Cincinnati date here in a couple of weeks and I’ll be interviewing The Red Chord’s Guy Kozowyk, and I thought I’d open the floor up to some questions, so to speak. So, if you have any questions for me to ask Guy, let me know in the comments section.

Check to see if they hit a town near you after the jump!

Converge are currently touring Europe in support of their most recent record, the phenomenal Axe To Fall. In fact, they hit the shores of the UK today with a show in Brighton, which I am told was amazing. No surprises there then.

Just announced, they will be selling a brand new, limited edition 7″ EP entitled On My Shield on this tour, featuring a brand-new A-side track On My Shield, with laser etching on the B-side. Lasers! Awesome.

The run will be limited to 3000 copies, divided into three different colours: 1000 for the tour, 1000 for the Deathwish e-store, and 1000 to be made available to vinyl retailers. The latter two of these will come with a free download card, so I guess the thing will hit the internet pretty soon after, but, and I quote the Convergecult official announcement, once these 7″EPs are gone, they are gone forever, so get your hands on a copy whilst you can.

I will probably be trying to get a copy when the tour rolls through Birmingham. That’s right Alabama, we’ve got one too, and ours was first!

One for the British readers. You fancy ‘Mericans and your nationwide metal tours. Well boo and hiss to you, good sirs!

In the wake of the disappointment following England’s disappointing World Cup performance, we have a bit of good news for you. Not that I generally follow football (yes, that’s football, played with the feet…), but it meant no more half-days spent legitimately bunking off work to watch it with the boss. Alas.

To cheer us up (or maybe just because they were doing it anyway), current British metal darlings Architects have announced the support for their autumn headline tour around the UK – and it’s gonna be a good one.

Not only have they drafted in the magnificent Devil Sold His Soul (who I keep harping on about I know, but they really are good), but in what must have been a bit of a coup, they’ve also got Norma Jean to accompany them, which should be good for a mosh or two. I’ll be bringing my knife to the gunfight.

Dates on the poster.

This is going to piss off so many people. Top notch trolling, guys. 10/10.

Korn are going to go on a world tour, and they hand picked Dimmu Borgir to support them on the road. Apparently, Jonathan Davis is a fan and had it set up, and Dimmu were happy to oblige.

Silenoz had this to say: “We really look forward to finally start the touring cycle in support of our new monster! Special thanks to Jonathan and Korn for giving us the opportunity!”

Here are the tour dates so far.

19 September – HMH, Amsterdam
23 September – Eishalle Seutweg, Winterthur
24 September – Zenith, Munich
26 September – Gasometer, Vienna
1 October – Ancienne Belgique, Brussels
2 October – Rosengarten, Mannheim
3 October – Palladium, Cologne
5 October – Haus-Auensee, Leipzig
6 October – C-Halle, Berlin

This is such a strange miss-match, but there are people out there who love both bands (shout out to my broseph Josh Lowe), but I can hear the elitists raging up a storm right now. That sound is so soothing, I might get some decent sleep tonight.

In related news, I had the opportunity to hear Korn’s upcoming album Korn III: Remember Who You Are, and I must say it isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Keep an eye out for the review next week.

Dimmu’s new album is yet to be titled and will be out October 12th on Nuclear Blast, while Korn III is due out July 13th on Roadrunner Records.

If I haven’t already expressed my undying love for Uneven Structure, then I will now. They are, as I’ve said in a previous post, a band that epitomizes good music. Djent may be new, but I already feel that Uneven Structure are a master of it despite only having an EP out. So in my attempts hopefully deliver some good, exclusive content, I went straight for this man: Igor Omodei (also known by the monikers of Iggy and Eggeh), one of the genius guitarists and songwriters behind Uneven Structure. Within hours of emailing him, I got some answers.

NOTE: English is not his first language so if there’s something you don’t understand I apologize.

Introduce yourself for those who might not know who you are!

I’m Igor “Iggy” Omodei, I play guitar and write stuff for Uneven Structure

Uneven Structure is probably the most badass name in metal. How did you guys come up with it?

Haha, the explanation may be a bit less badass actually. It has nothing to do with the fact we use odd time signatures and unusually long song structures. Actually we’ve been looking for a name that would represent something like floating islands or weird architectural structures, deep, complex and big. It all ended up on Uneven Structure!

You guys released an incredible EP, 8, in December last year to a lot of positive feedback and I personally thought the lyrics were as amazing as the music. Who wrote the lyrics and what’s the whole lyrical theme behind it?

Thanks! Lyrics were written by Daniel and me. It’s all about the “egg or the chicken” dilemma. If divinities induced fanaticism or if it is fanaticism that created these, seen through this eyes of an oracle.

You know how I kept saying that the tours this summer suck? Well, this one doesn’t count, as it’s pretty damn sweet.

Deftones will soon be headlining across the United States late this summer , with Circa Survive and Baroness switching as support.

Here are the dates we know so far for the trek:

dates with Circa Survive
8/6 Ventura, CA @ Ventura Theatre
8/7 Fresno, CA @ Woodward Park
8/8 Sacramento, CA @ Memorial Auditorium
8/10 Reno, NV @ Knitting Factory

dates with Baroness
8/12 Spokane, WA @ Knitting Factory
8/13 Medford, OR @ Medford Armory
8/14 Salt Lake City, UT @ Rail Event Center
8/18 Lubbock, TX @ Lonestar Pavillion
8/19 Tulsa, OK @ Brady Theatre
8/22 New Orleans, LA @ House of Blues
8/25 Miami Beach, FL @ Fillmore Miami Beach

9/8 Cincinnati, OH @ Bogarts
9/10 Columbus, OH @ Newport Music Hall
9/14 Cleveland, OH @ House of Blues

Oh yes, sign me up under Deftones and Baroness please! As you may recall, I thought Diamond Eyes was a stellar album, and Baroness are pretty solid. Both bands are sure to blow the audience away.

More tour dates are to be announced, and there’s a slight chance I’ll be able to attend this one! I can only hope they can throw me a date in Lexington. Hoping and praying starts now.
