Last night we broke the news that Between the Buried and Me were planning a headlining North American tour in which they played the entirety of their opus The Parallax II: Future Sequence, bringing in support from The Faceless, The Contortionist, and The Safety Fire. Now, the full run of dates has been announced, and these four progressive metal acts will snake across the United States in plenty of secondary markets, so fans have ample opportunity to catch this excellent tour. Since signing to Metal Blade, I don’t think Between the Buried in Me have been on a single bad tour! Dates below.

There are very few tours this year we’ve been looking forward to more than Between the Buried and Me‘s headlining North American tour. It’s been promised that the group will play their latest opus The Parallax II: Future Sequence in its entirety, which was released late last year to much acclaim, ending up on a number of year-end best-of lists. As if that idea wasn’t enough to make for a killer tour, the seminal prog group are bringing in tow supporting acts The Faceless, The Contortionist, and The Safety Fire.

Full dates have not been announced yet, but the poster and touring lineup was leaked by Ace of Spades in Sacramento, who posted the tour poster and their October 1st tour date ahead of the full announcement. So far, that makes two dates known for this prog dream tour:

10/18 – Sayreville, NJ @ Starland Ballroom

With dates being confirmed and a tour admat complete, expect the full list of dates to appear soon.

This past weekend, The Dillinger Escape Plan performed at Metallica‘s Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit as a four-piece act. Guitarist and sole founding member Ben Weinman sat at the side of the stage looking on, as he has sustained injuries to his hand and wrist. Following the festival appearance, the band were scheduled to head off to Europe, but following Weinman’s injuries, they have decided to cancel the tour and use the time for healing before their upcoming headlining Summer Slaughter Tour

Here’s the official press release:

The Dillinger Escape Plan regretfully must cancel their upcoming summer European festival and club appearances due to an injury sustained by guitarist and co-founder Ben Weinman on his right hand and wrist. He will spend June recovering.

“I’m heartbroken that we will miss these shows because we were all looking forward to them a great deal,” Weinman said. “Obviously nobody likes being injured. I’m looking forward to performing on Summer Slaughter at full capacity and we will be back in Europe this fall on our headlining tour.”

The Dillinger Escape Plan performed at Metallica’s Orion Music & More festival over the weekend, where Metallica’s Robert Trujillo was kind enough to give Ben a chair to watch and heckle the rest of his band during the set.

Dillinger is touring behind their new album “One of Us is the Killer” which debuted at #1 on the US heavy music chart. They recently completed a video for the album’s title track which will be released in the coming weeks.

“Leaving for tour knowing that we would be performing without all members on stage isn’t something any of us are comfortable with,” added frontman Greg Puciato. “Ben is going to take the next month to heal and we’ll be ready to demolish Summer Slaughter and return to Europe in the fall with all systems loaded and ready to go.”

Dillinger have always been known as a dangerous, resilient, and tenacious act. Cancelling an entire tour isn’t something the band does regularly, but Ben’s going to need all the time he can get to recover from his injuries. Hell, just a month off doesn’t seem like enough time for a broken hand to heal before an extensive Dillinger Escape Plan headlining trek. The fact that the group aren’t cancelling Summer Slaughter dates is pretty telling of their dedication. Here’s hoping that Ben can recover enough to tour comfortably when Summer Slaughter rolls around.

Being a writer for a site such as this has its perks, even if the pay is low or non-existent. We’re working on a review of the new Scale the Summit record The Migration, and so far, it’s looking like a glorious album. One of my favorite tracks in particular has got to be ‘Narrow Salient,’ since it’s one of the more riff-oriented songs on the album and boasts a pretty stellar bass solo. Metal needs more bass solos in general.

Ghost are one of those bands that are evidently must-see live acts. I’ve never had the opportunity to catch the band myself, but the band’s tongue-in-cheek Satanism, air of mystery, and a knack for the theatrical must make for a fun show. The band are receiving a fair bit of success in the US, so they’ve been spending more time on tour over here the past year or two. In fact, they’ve announced a short run of dates surrounding their appearance at Lollapalooza. Check the dates below.

If you listen to just one new band this year, make it Anciients. Their progressive sludgey concoction of Mastodon and Opeth caught me completely off-guard early this year and earned, at the very least, 500 words of fanboy praise from yours truly. So naturally I’ll jump at the chance to talk about them with the latest news being this live version of ‘Overthrone‘ shot at the release party for their debut Heart Of Oak earlier this month in Vancouver, Canadia.

Shot from multiple cameras by Not Your Scene magazine, it shows off everything I love about the band — the ridiculous musicianship, the brilliant songwriting and the head banging tunes that are spawned from those two components. Huge winding riffs meet crashing drums and vocals that range from enticing croons and harsh rasps — if there’s any justice in the world, this band will be massive. Be sure to check them out on their tour with Lamb Of God and Decapitated at the following dates:

As far as blatant Black Sabbath worshiping goes, Windhand are one of the bands that do it absolutely right. The occult rock thing is getting a bit homogenous, but it helps when you’re able to be as catchy as Windhand. The band have just wrapped up their full-length Relapse solo debut (they had a split album with Cough earlier this year through the label) and are hitting the road this June.

Deafheaven‘s upcoming album Sunbather is on my most anticipated list. From the samples I’ve heard, and the first single, it’s going to be better than the already great Roads To Judah. Anyways, today I’m happy to announce that the band will be doing a tour in support of the album, which comes out June 11th on Deathwish Inc. Of course they only make one Florida stop, on the same day of the Intronaut show. However, I’ve seen Intronaut headline before, so I’m going to be seeing this one. Baroness‘ Yellow & Green was an astounding record. It ended up in my top 5 on last year’s list, and I’ve kept listening to it ever since. I was super stoked to see the band tour, however, with the bus accident that left them with multiple serious injuries and even caused two members to leave the band, it didn’t look like it would happen anytime soon, save for the occasional local gig. However, the band are back!

They have released a video with John Baizley discussing all things touring. I’m glad to see that they’re getting back on the road. Although the dates are scarce, this will most likely be a warmup tour before they do any more extensive touring. It’s going to be a test of how well the rehab has boded them, especially Baizley’s fretting hand and leg. Death To All is without a doubt one of the more buzzworthy and substantial “comebacks” of the last few years. Many fans have long given up on the possibility of seeing a Death show since the band’s founder Chuck Schuldiner passed away after battling cancer in 2001. Fortunately, surviving members of the group’s revolving door of musicians have stepped up to unite under the Death To All name to celebrate Chuck and give back to the fans and charity, with proceeds from the DTA tours going to Sweet Relief, a non-profit organization that provides financial aid to touring musicians in need of health care.
