Shut Up And Take My Money - Heavy Blog Is Heavy

The Black Dahlia Murder - Everblack

And that song is beyond awesome, and is easily my favorite song they’ve done so far. My affinity for this new track ‘Raped in Hatred by Vines of Thorn‘ doesn’t stop at its subject matter, but the song’s somewhat nostalgic view of classic melodic death metal brought into a contemporary context is really quite brilliant. The song is ridiculously catchy with the right amount of tech; that solo for instance is just blissful. Stream it here courtesy of Revolver.

RSDCOM2011

As most of you may know, this past Saturday was Record Store Day, an industry holiday created to boost sales for independent record stores by releasing limited exclusive records to physical shops across the world. I took part in Record Store Day, and here’s what I was able to come up with.

Indiegogo is great as it has provided a great opportunity for individuals to bring their ideas and creativity to fruition outside of traditional distribution markets such as record labels. Similar to Protest The Hero, Misery Signals has now hopped on board with IndieGoGo and with great success.

Scale The Summit‘s new album The Migration is just around the bend, and I’m pretty excited. That cover art is pretty spectacular, and with production from Jamie King, you know that it’s going to sound good. The first single from the album ‘Odyssey‘ has been made available, which can be streamed below.

I was doing a bit of moaning last week when I found out that Norwegian avant-garde metallers SHINING are releasing their new album One One One this week in their native land and nowhere else. I had assumed the band were working on international distribution deals, and I was right. Prosthetic Records have announced that they will be releasing One One One digitally on April 23rd, with physical formats due out in late May/early June.

RSDCOM2011

A couple of years ago, I was displeased with Record Store Day. While I’m all for the prospect of saving record stores and the music industry and centering a holiday of sorts around the idea of getting folks out to their nearest mom and pop music shop, I’m a rural music fan with no record stores within two hours of my home. This makes obtaining RSD exclusive release a major pain, usually involving scouring eBay after the fact in the hope that a release is available without an inflated price.

This year though, there was a bit of synchronicity that worked out in my favor in ridiculous luck. This year, I will be in Cincinnati on April 20th to see Death To All, which means I’ll have access to a couple of different RSD participating locations. Lucky for my collection, unlucky for my wallet.

If you find yourselves within proximity of a participating record store on April 20th (find out here!), then here is a list of relevant exclusive vinyl releases that you may find of interest:

I’ll be honest, I completely missed the boat when it came to Mandroid Echostar. Even when everyone at Heavy Blog was singing their praises, for whatever reason, I completely passed over them — probably because I’m a complete mug. Fast forward to Febuary of this year, the band released a guitar playthrough of ‘The Kingdom And The Crown from their self-titled debut EP and I was completely blown away by their brand of Protest The Hero-meets-Coheed And Cambria sound. And now it is time for my wallet to atone for my sins with the announcement of band’s Indiegogo campaign to fund the recording of their debut album.

syl boxset

To my knowledge, the now defunct legendary death metal band Strapping Young Lad never had any of their albums pressed to vinyl, but that’s getting rectified this year when independent label Blood Music releases a 7LP box set of the band’s discography. Plans for the release have long been announced, but details are just now coming out. The box set will include every SYL full-length album with covers re-imagined by the prolific artist Travis Smith. The box set will also include a rarities and demos collection, which includes the following tracks:
