Meek Is Murder TourMeek is Murder

Meek is Murder are one of the most promising bands sporting the ambiguous whatevercore blend of grind, math, and hardcore. We’re talking one-or-two-minute chaotic tracks that are technical and absolutely crushing. This fledgling band is totally independent (labels, get on this or something! They’re perfect for Relapse or Deathwish, Inc.) and booked a short set of dates around the East Coast this month. Check out our photos from their set at The Pariah in Philadelphia, PA courtesy of local photeggrapher (yes) Maclyn Bean below.

tbdm live

We may be right of the cusp of the release of the new Black Dahlia Murder record Everblack, but that hasn’t stopped the band supporting their previous album Ritual, with the recent release of a live video of, what was by far the stand-out track, ‘Moonlight Equilibrium‘. Now I understand the band’s amazing chops may be the most immediate thing for most people, but for anyone like myself  who has seen the band quite a few times now, the most shocking revelation was the fact that vocalist Trevor Strnad is actually wearing a t-shirt.

Nails headlining tour Spring 2013

Few tours offer as much MOSH as the recent Nails, Xibalba, and Early Graves tour. As usual, our regularly contributing photographer Maclyn Bean (the most technical and speedest photographer ever) attended his local show at Broad Street Ministry in Philadelphia and managed to not get his equipment broken! Photos of the show can be viewed below:

Road To Metalfest 2013

After the Burial‘s Road To Metalfest tour was a progcore dream tour! Featuring support from Within The Ruins, The Contortionist (who had Last Chance To Reason‘s Michael Lessard filling in on vocals!), and Glass Cloud, the trek took the bands to and from the annual New England Hardcore & Metal Festival. Needless to say, the Eastern US got rocked — hard. Our regular contributing photographer Maclyn Bean shot the stop  in West Chester on April 22nd, and photos from the show can be viewed below!

Death To All 2013

Death To All is without a doubt one of the more buzzworthy and substantial “comebacks” of the last few years. Many fans have long given up on the possibility of seeing a Death show since the band’s founder Chuck Schuldiner passed away after battling cancer in 2001. Fortunately, surviving members of the group’s revolving door of musicians have stepped up to unite under the Death To All name to celebrate Chuck and give back to the fans and charity, with proceeds from the DTA tours going to Sweet Relief, a non-profit organization that provides financial aid to touring musicians in need of health care.

Resident photographer Maclyn Bean attended the April 25th show at Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA. His photos of the event can be viewed below.

I’m absolutely in love with The Dillinger Escape Plan. I’m of the opinion that they are one of the greatest bands on the planet, and it’s a shame that most people just don’t get it. Just take a look at any of the comments in The Summer Slaughter Tour’s desperate Facebook feed. Every time I click “Show Comments,” I immediately regret it. The band are widely misunderstood, but that’s the nature of their often oppressive music. You either get it or you don’t.

I mean, just look at this and try not to rage.

The Dillinger Escape Plan performed three songs in this week’s Revolver Golden Gods Awards, and judging by the motionless crowd, it would appear that they didn’t get the group either despite a high-energy performance. Let’s face it though; the folks at the awards show aren’t interested in mathcore; they’re either industry insiders or fans of mainstream or traditional metal. It’s Revolver, after all. Hopefully one day Decibel will be as big, but that’s unlikely because music is scary.

Look at me sounding elitist when I have no right to be.

Check out the video below, featuring the tracks ‘Prancer,’ ‘When I Lost My Bet,’ and a cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Behind the Wheel’ with guest vocals from Deftones’ Chino Moreno. Insane performance involving blood, destruction, and FIRE.

South By So What 2013

We don’t take part in nearly enough music festivals, but that’s slowly starting to change. We were able to send our resident photographer Chris Collins to South By So What?! festival in Grand Prairie, TX on March 16th to get shots of a number of bands. The festival is a polarizing one, but here’s something in its depths for everyone. Among those of interest to us in particular were Architects, Betraying the Martyrs, Chelsea Grin, I Declare War, Norma Jean, and Upon a Burning Body. Check out the photos below:
