A blog called Distractions of Living Alone has posted a recent live set by bay area favorites Cormorant, featuring two new songs. Both songs are still without vocals, but they sound great so far.

The quality of the recording is pretty decent, despite the low volume. I boosted the volume a little and cut the set into tracks for your listening and downloading pleasure below. If the songs don’t open their own players in this page, try refreshing.
Be sure to thank Teruist from DOLA for making this available, and of course the guys in Cormorant for being awesome in the first place.

Devin Townsend Battles Ziltoid!

The Finnish are so unbelievably lucky to witness the battle of the century unfold before their eyes when Devin Townsend dueled against Ziltoid The Omniscient in a fury of fretboard wankery at Tuska Festival 2010.

Check out the Hello Kitty strat. Ziltoid means business.

Also during this performance, Devin played the album Ziltoid: The Omniscient in its entirety. Check out “Planet Smasher” with Testament’s Chuck Billy and “Color Your World” after the jump. What a great show. I wish I could have been there, man.

One for the British readers. You fancy ‘Mericans and your nationwide metal tours. Well boo and hiss to you, good sirs!

In the wake of the disappointment following England’s disappointing World Cup performance, we have a bit of good news for you. Not that I generally follow football (yes, that’s football, played with the feet…), but it meant no more half-days spent legitimately bunking off work to watch it with the boss. Alas.

To cheer us up (or maybe just because they were doing it anyway), current British metal darlings Architects have announced the support for their autumn headline tour around the UK – and it’s gonna be a good one.

Not only have they drafted in the magnificent Devil Sold His Soul (who I keep harping on about I know, but they really are good), but in what must have been a bit of a coup, they’ve also got Norma Jean to accompany them, which should be good for a mosh or two. I’ll be bringing my knife to the gunfight.

Dates on the poster.

This past Sunday, Deftones played Luxembourg’s Rock-A-Field Festival and performed Passenger with Paramore‘s Haley Williams doing Maynard’s parts. I think she did a pretty good job, but her stage presence was practically non-existent, facing away from the audience for half the song. Even still, the vocal performance wasn’t too bad. I wonder how that collaboration came about. Seemed pretty random to me, anyway.

I think I’m going to confess something here, I actually dig some Paramore songs and I think Haley has a good voice. I can’t help it. The shit’s catchy and Haley is super fine. Don’t judge me!

The Chariot: Live in London

As I said yesterday, the week I finished university for good was a busy one to say the least; and that was after running around like a headless chicken trying to get my portfolios printed, bound, and handed in.

A number of generally geeky pursuits dominated my week, but the heavy was most definitely brought in the form of two shows, the latter of which I’ll be reviewing right here.

It was a dark and stormy Sunday evening in Camden Town. The moon was high, and cast deep shadows over the goblins and other uncelubrious creatures of London’s dirtiest suburb. Shady doorways hid all manner of nefarious goings on; things an innocent mind such as myself had no business in witnessing.

Okay, so it was sunny with a mild breeze. But I’m trying to keep it metal here, what do you want from me?

Narrows: Live in London

Wednesday May 5th marked the end of my academic career. It was a busy day to say the least, but lacked the appropriate fanfare I felt it deserved. Where were the fireworks? The champagne? The cheering crowd to carry me on their shoulders?

I pretty much anticipated this though. My university is lamer than a duck with two broken legs, and so in anticiaption I snatched up two tickets to go and see Narrows, featuring Dave Verellen (ex-Botch) and Ryan Frederiksen (ex-These Arms Are Snakes) in order to celebrate properly.

The first support act came in the form of Holy State, who for me were unremarkable. They had a few good moments, but lacked that edge that makes an adequate live band essential. Most notably, they talked a little too much. This is a lesson a lot of small band could learn; more noise, less mouth. Like I say, not bad, but nothing spectacular. View Full Article »

Conducting From The Grave have been on the road, melting faces on the Facemelter tour with Dying Fetus, Arsis, Misery Index, and Annotations of an Autopsy. While out on tour, they’ve had a new vocalist on board and have been trying out new songs, which can be seen below.

The songs sound good, musically, but I’m not too fond of the new vocalist. I’m looking forward to the upcoming album though, and I’m sure everything sounds tight on there.

CFTG’s new album is due out later this year on Sumerian Records.

In case you missed it, last night, Deftones performed their entire new album Diamond Eyes live on UStream. I just love it when a band plays the full album, and the trend seems to be picking up, which is good!

Check out the full hour of the performance below. It was delicious.

Ihsahn performed his first show this year at the Inferno Festival in Oslo, Norway. On Easter, no less. He is backed by the band Leprous and Shining’s Jørgen Munkeby playing sax. Check out those lights. Woah. Epileptics be warned during the really heavy and fast parts. If Ihsahn ever brings his solo act to America, you can bet you can sign me up.

After the jump, “A Grave Inversed”.

I’m getting Cloverfield-level dizziness over here. Sure, the video is fun to look at, but the chaotic camera movements and, well, I’ll call it a fairly liberal way of aiming the camera, make this thing hard to watch. But still, if you expect anything pro-shot out of Dillinger, it should match the music and the intense show, and this pretty much does it.
