A lot of people are excited for 11/11/11 because of the new Elder Scrolls game Skyrim, but I’m legitimately more excited for something else that sees release on that date, SHINING‘s Blackjazz Live DVD. I’m so excited, that I’ll be giving away a free copy to one reader (details to come in the coming weeks).

Terrorizer have debuted a clip from the DVD, “Madness and the Damage Done.” The video, above, excited me even more for its release. It looks absolutely insane, and apparently an epileptic’s worst nightmare.

Blackjazz Live is due out November 11th on Indie Recordings in Europe and Prosthetic in North America.

It’s fantastic news that Adam Darski – AKA Nergal – has won his battle against leukemia and is back on track with Behemoth, and they played their first live shows in quite a while this month. They were in their home country of Poland, where they have a huge audience, which must feel amazing for Nergal.

The shows so far have included pyrotechnics, which makes it even more insane. Nergal looks pretty weird without hair, but the man deserves credit for his sheer enthusiasm. Below are some videos from a show last week, and while they’re not pro-shot quality, they’re still decent enough to show that Behemoth are in better shape than ever. As a huge Behemoth fan, I’m very excited about this.

There are some more videos on the channel of the guy who has uploaded these, including some after the jump. As you can see, all is well again in the land of Behemoth. Nergal has been talking about a 2012 USA tour, so stay tuned for more news about that.

I don’t know how I got to this video on my daily trawls of metal news/Twitter/Neopets but I somehow happened upon it. So general metal populace, I ask you, how is this not a big deal!? Kvelertak produced one of the best debut albums of the last decade with their self-titled last year and no one thought to alert me the moment there was new material? Despicable!

Naturally, it sounds great, recorded at a secret show in Brooklyn just after the ridiculously stocked Metalsucks/Metal Injection CMJ Showcase. From what I can gather, it sounds much like the half way point between the fun party rock of “Mjöd” and  Satyricon with a ‘few beers’ feel of “Fossegrim“, which is absolutely perfect as I loved both of those tracks. There aren’t many bands who can get me excited about new material from just a fairly low quality live version of a new song but I’m more than welcoming to the prospect of getting a new Kvelertak record as soon as possible!

ALASKACEPTION

Heavy Blog idols Between the Buried and Me were recently in Anchorage, Alaska on their headlining Saints and Sinners Tour. The group doesn’t travel to Alaska very much, so they took advantage of the situation by playing their song “Alaska” from 2005′s Alaska, a song they don’t play very much at all. How neat of them! Luckily, they’ve allowed multi-cam footage of the song to be shot, and you can see that in the video above.

Saints and Sinners, which also features Animals as Leaders and Tesseract, is in full swing. Check out the dates we posted here and hit up the date nearest to you!

Norway’s Shining are a peculiar band that took our hearts and ran with them last year when they released their album Blackjazz. It was easily an album that made a leap to my top 10 albums of 2010. If you’re not familiar with this group, imagine what it would sound like if Nine Inch Nails and Enslaved wrote a jazz record together. It’s absolutely nuts.

At the end of last year or so (I forget), the band recorded one of their live performances, which the band promised would be released as a live CD/DVD combo. I was excited, but eventually forgot about it. Recently, the band has made good on their promise and announced Blackjazz Live! They released the trailer above which highlights clips of the album’s tracklist. NEAT!

Here’s a rundown of the album’s production personnel:

Produced by Munkeby
Mixed by Sean Beavan (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Slayer)
Mastered by Tom Baker (Marilyn Manson, David Lynch, Nine Inch Nails)
Graded by John Cryer (Muse)
Film directed by Anders Børresen

As you can tell, this DVD is going to be legit! Seriously, this looked so good that I immediately pre-ordered two copies—one for myself and… well… you’ll see!

Blackjazz Live is due out 11/11/11 on Prosthetic Records. Those of us in the States can pre-order it here for a measly $15.

America really needs to catch on with these massive rock and metal festivals. What we’ve got now doesn’t really cut it. I mean, we’ve had a surge in popularity with Bonnaroo, Zion Rock Fest, Maryland Deathfest (which we’re attending!), and New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, but really, we don’t have anything that can touch the Soundwaves, Downloads, and Rock am Rings out there. OH WELL, we’ll make do!

So Soundwave looks really neat next year. Obviously, the headliners are almost always nu-metal bands or Metallica, but there’s a ton of cool acts on board if the headliners aren’t really your bag (even though I hold the opinion that everyone should enjoy System of a Down in some capacity.) Digging through the lineup, I see Devin Townsend Project, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Gojira, and more. Lucky Australians.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 20th. You can check out the entire lineup in text form after the jump!

Norway’s Shining, which released one of the best records of 2010 with Blackjazz, are releasing a live album/DVD filled with selections from their discography. The live DVD is entitled Live Blackjazz and will be released November 11th. I can’t wait, and neither should you.  After the jump, here are a couple of reasons why you should be shitting your pants right now.  If you aren’t familiar with Shining, get on it.

We might be finally bringing our online community into the real world when Heavy Blog Is Heavy and The Number Of The Blog meets up next summer for Maryland Deathfest 2012. As it stands now, Quigs and Snags from TNOTB and Noyan and I from HBIH will be in Baltimore for all four days! Now, anything could come up in the next eight months or so, but the plan is for us to meet up and enjoy the biggest death metal festival in North America. Tickets have been purchased, and we are beyond excited!

While we’re there, we hope to interview bands and review sets. I plan on doing an old-fashion personal blog on the experience, but maybe if there’s enough interest and demand, we may live-blog throughout the day. It’s up to you folks! We’re going and we have the tools to report back to you, so please let me know in the comments section below what you want and expect from us while we’re in Baltimore next May.

Want to meet up with us and hang out? Excellent! You can purchase tickets and check out all the cool details (lineup, running order, hotel and venue info) over at the Maryland Deathfest website and let us know if you plan on going! We’ll talk more about this when it gets closer to the date, but consider this a heads up. Tickets might sell out well in advance!

Seeing Jimmy’s passing mention of how he enjoyed Bring Me The Horizon‘s latest album, 2010′s There is a Heaven…/There is a Hell…, in his post on the American Juggalo documentary the other day reminded me to do something I’ve been meaning to do for awhile. Write about them. More specifically, to tell you that this band is really good. I am a fan, and I am 100% unashamed to admit it.

Sure, I was drinking the haterade like most of you for awhile. Their early material is fairly entry-level, and they look goofy as hell and all the little scene kids adore them, so automatically we  ‘real metalheads’ have to despise them, right? It’s an understandable knee-jerk reaction, and I pretty much wrote them off after Suicide Season - although I didn’t particularly hate it – but when one of my best friends told me to check out Heaven/Hell, and literally would not stop raving about it, I gave it an open minded spin and was totally floored.

It really is a great album, and over a year later I only appreciate it more with each listen.  Solid all the way through and often incredible, unbelievable production, and some of the best guitar tones I’ve ever heard on any album, in any genre. If you passed this album up, you should really give it another go.

Being that TesseracT – the band behind one of my favourite albums of the year so far in One – were hitting the road this month on their much anticipated Lowering the Tone tour with a brand new, somewhat controversial vocalist at the forefront, there wasn’t much chance of me missing this. Combine that with one of my favourite live bands of the year in Chimp Spanner, and Basick Records’ exciting new prog-metal progenies Uneven Structure, and you could put money on the first date of the tour – the London show, no less – being packed to the rafters; and it pretty much was. I was more than happy to stand near the back, spending my ill-saved ticket money on drinks, taking in the djenty atmosphere with our own sometimes columnist Ed Newman.
