Sometimes, you just need something meaty that will smack you in the face. Fortunately for us, the ranks of North American death metal, be it deathcore, technical death metal or progressive death metal, are more than welcome to oblige our bludgeoning desires, releasing album after album of well made, modern death metal that’s all about aggression and force. Enter Montreal’s Depths of Hatred, who are more than happy to don the boxer’s glove and throw some punches of their own. As the band are gearing up for an EP titled Bloodguilt (out on July 20th via the mighty Prosthetic Records), they’re also releasing a single of the same name, which we’re happy to premiere for you today. Head on over the jump for plenty of tasty solos, guttural vocals, fast paced drumming and meaty riffs! Oh, there’s some piano as well. See you there!

I think what I love the most about this track is how many different kinds of death metal blend on here. There’s some stuff that could be called technical death metal but not enough to put the band solely in the camp. The solos and their cleaner tones definitely hint towards progressive death metal with its flair and brighter spectrum but the style of guttural vocals and how thick the main lines are draw from more from deathcore than prog. But the end result is, surprisingly, pretty damn good, as the band manage to balance all of these sounds into an overall mesh of death metal that seems to just work. Throw in some tasty synths along the way, as well as a killer piano outro, and you’ve got yourself a damn fine example of how good modern death metal can sound.

If this track has you hyped, which it should, then you can head on over here to pre-order the album. Or why not catch the band on their Canadian tour with Hideous Divinity? Both are great ways to support up and coming musicians! You can find the dates right here:
