Arkona are one of the most underrated bands out there. These Russian blackened folk metal heroes have been in the business for more than 15 years now and make consistently great releases. Their style draws influences from melodic death, black metal and more to create rich tapestries of evocative music. They are slated to continue this illustrious career with their 2018 release, Khram. Being the Russian word for “temple”, Khram is set to continue the band’s penchant for lyrics revolving around their own area’s mythology, adding much to their unique vibe. This trajectory is confirmed by their latest track, which are proud to premiere here today, titled “Shtorm”. Check it out below!

“Shtorm” is a direct continuation of the band’s previous works and an excellent introduction to this fantastic band. Listen especially to how easily and naturally the folk influences, in the form of myriad traditional tools, interlace with the more modern, black metal elements. Combined with the furious elements from black metal which Arkona reverently use to form the core of the track, these folk elements find new meaning and purpose in this modern day creation. The overall result is something which many folk bands only dream about, a true integration of the source material and sound into the core Arkona’s sound instead of into pointless breaks and minor roles within the music.

Khram will see release on the 19th of January, 2018, via Napalm Records and thus marks one of the earliest contenders during that year for most anticipated release at the Heavy Blog camp. In the meantime, you can head on over here to pre-order it. Make sure that you do, since you don’t want to miss on another underground releases by one of the best bands in the business.
