For the first time in 20 years, Soundgarden dug deep into their old catalog and brought back “Birth Ritual,” the 1992 single from the film Singles. This performance at Australia’s Soundwave Festival is said to be only the second time they’ve performed the song live, having it first appear way back when in 1992, but they have put it into their live sets at further Soundwave appearances.

In addition, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil made commentary to The Sydney Morning Herald about the band’s return to the studio to record a followup to 2012’s King Animal.

No studio has been chosen and no songs are written yet. When we finish these shows in Australia we’ll spend a month or more working on it. It’s definitely going to happen. We worked with producer Adam Kasper on our last album and I wouldn’t be surprised if we hook up with him again.

Grunge fans, get hype. The inevitable tour is sure to be monumental.
