Alkaloid - The Malkuth Grimoire

German progressive death metal supergroup Alkaloid is definitely on the top of my watchlist. Not just because the group has Christian Muenzner (Spawn of Possesion, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) and Hannes Grossmann (Blotted Science, ex-Necrophagist, ex-Obscura), Linus Klausenitzer (Noneuclid, Obscura), Danny Tunker (Aborted) and Morean (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid). Not only is this lineup very exciting, but they’ve already released a teaser and a song, and they both sound great. Now they have another song titled “Cthulhu”, and it’s awesome. Check it out.

This track is reminiscent of Morbid Angel‘s “Where The Slime Live” and Obscura’s “Ocean Gateways” (which is actually an homage to the former), but with a tinge of Gorguts‘s latest album Colored Sands that makes it sound weird and unsettling. The production is also ridiculously good which adds to the heaviness of the song. With every snippet the Alkaloid release The Malkuth Grimoire gets more and more exciting. You have a last-minute chance to contribute to their crowdfunding today, and the album will release in February. We’ll definitely be talking more about this album very soon if we can survive the hype.
