We’re really bad at breaks, in case you hadn’t noticed yet. We just love music too much, especially when it’s excellent instrumental music. This past year has been great for instrumental releases and it appears that 2015 is not looking to be any different. Here to kick us off is NOK NOVUM, a darkly ambient, fanatically progressive outfit, with their single ‘Shiryō’. What you need to know: it was mixed by Adam “Nolly” Getgood of Periphery fame, it has a guess spot by Emil Werstler of Daath/Chimaira at around the two minute mark and it will have you licking your fingers from aural goodness. For crying out loud, head on over the jump already and listen for yourself!
This excellent track has so many highlights, so I don’t really know where to begin. Perhaps at the end, where the last minute and a half are filled with one of the more dynamic and ear-catching breakdowns I can remember from recent times. Or maybe at the great guitar tones that populate this track, heavy and yet oddly catchy, hooking us well and good. Lastly, I’d like to point out at the great middle section, which takes its time with exploring all the different themes of the track instead of just meandering about.
