Last night, my life changed. I have been following Israeli rock post/shoegaze band Tatran for a while now and have been to countless, sold out, local shows. But last night, the charming trio took everything to the next level. Launching their debut album, Shvat, Tatran delivered a perfect show to a sold out crowd, absolutely transforming their music into magic. Their brand of post rock, tinged with experiments in the relationship between guitars, bass and drums, was infused with the power of the event and stage they played. Before I keep gushing away, head on over the jump for a listen.

‘Space Out’ is a great example of what the band does best: they love playing around with groove, heavyness and being unexpected. Just when you think the rhythm is going to explode, it gets reined back in. Throughout, the whole thing works as one unit as the three instruments meld into a greater whole. On stage, this is even further amplified by improvisation and insane amounts of effects. However, the trick to Tatran is that they never forget to be catchy. They can make you scratch your head in wonder but most of all, they can make you dance. And dance we did.

The album, having seen release last night, should be available in full over at bandcamp by the time this will be published. If it’s not, you can still check out ‘Anar’ as well, one of my favorite tracks. The main guitar line is so damn catchy and it’s broken in just the right parts. These two tracks are more fast paced, but there are also quieter songs on the album, echoing the gentler side of post-rock. I suggest you give these guys a thorough listen and get lost in the twisting beauty that is Tatran.
