Confession: I really like that this segment has become a recurring thing and that we’ve gathered up a fair share of steady readers around it. This is truly a unique and beautiful genre and I’m glad to be sharing it with you. That being said, let’s turn our attention to our stars of this installment, Toundra. Perhaps one of the bands that are most in keeping with the rest of Heavy Blog, Toundra live in the shady borders between post rock and post metal. Check it for yourself below the jump!

Among the more breathy, dreamy sequences live heavy riffs that wouldn’t shame Rosetta or Mouth of the Architect. This tension creates an engaging tapestry of light and dark, always keeping a sharp edge ready to cut into the softer material. The whole album just rings with this dynamic and nowhere more than dual tracks ‘Magreb’ and ‘Zanzibar’ right at the start of the album. These feature the delay pedal soaked guitars of yesteryear, but couple it perfectly with heavier bass and drums to break up that staple post-rock sound. I’ll be jamming this album repeatedly in the coming months and we’ll keep you posted if any new material surfaces. Stay post!
