The Satanist, despite it’s fairly simplistic name, is easily one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The return of Nergal and company has many a metalhead waiting with bated breath and when you start to hear tracks like ‘Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer‘, it’s very obvious why. Much like ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel‘, it’s not some pandemonic hyperblast as some of their previous material has been, instead opting for a slightly slower but still crushing pace that sets the framework for some truly blasphemous and infectious lyrics.

It’s exactly the sort of track that has ‘album of the year’ contender written all over it — I’ve heard it a couple of times now and it’s still got that immediate impact the moment that main riffs kicks in. The lyric video also means we can get a little more up close and personal with the album artwork, painted by Russian artist Denis Forkas and apparently including some of Nergal’s own blood. Yes, of course.

Either way, The Satanist will drop imminently on February 4th. Pray to Lucifer your pre-order arrives on time.
