I don’t know about you, but I don’t know a single metalhead that hasn’t enjoyed Mastodon in some form or fashion. Their earlier work seems to be the most universally acclaimed though, and it’s clear that Leviathan has already achieved status as a classic metal record. Not a lot of people seem aware of their Call of The Mastodon compilation though, which collects the band’s pre-Leviathan EP Lifesblood and a few loose ends. For the first time in eight years, the group’s former label Relapse Records are re-releasing the album on vinyl, and the new release looks glorious.

I was slighly late to the vinyl game, but I’m trying to scrape together the Mastodon discography as I get the funds. I still need Remission, Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye, but I might as well strike while the iron’s hot for Call of the Mastodon. A sample of music and shots of each color pressing can be seen in the above trailer.

Pre-orders are happening now, with orders shipping around February 18th. I’ve got my eye on the limited blue/gold merge, and at $17.99 ($15.99 for the clear gold/blue splatter and standard red), it’s too good to pass up.
