Sounds an interesting combination doesn’t it? And what a combination it would be with two bands who are pretty much leaders within their respective genres and while Pig Destroyer aren’t exactly strangers to sharing split time with some interesting bands (Isis, Coldworker, Antigama for example), it should be pretty intense to see the kings of modern grindcore take on the kings of modern melodeath. But how would you feel about those bands releasing a split filled entirely with covers of punk songs?
Of course it sounds amazing! So imagine my reaction when a little birdy told me that a split recorded way back in 2005/2006, as in just after the release of both Terrifyer and Miasma, may see the light of day soon. Whilst you should take this entirely as an ‘unconfirmed rumour’, the details are as follows:
- Each band recorded 3 tracks.
- All of which were covers of punk tracks.
- The split was set to be released through Relapse Records but for some reason or another was halted.
It’s not much, but it’s something. After last year’s Ritual, I’d be more than welcoming to anything new by The Black Dahlia Murder and it’s been far, far too long since we’ve heard anything from Pig Destroyer. However, even if it’s a little while before we hear it, it’s definitely something I’d love to hear one day. Yeah, so hush hush, ok?
