So far, three of my most anticipated albums of 2012 just happen to be coming out of France. You’ve got Gojira working hard on their Roadrunner debut, Hypno5e‘s Acid Mist Tomorrow coming in a few months, and Alcest‘s Les Voyages De L’Âme hitting in just a month. France is really on the ball recently with their stellar output. It’s hard to believe there was ever a time when the country wasn’t really taken seriously as a beacon of metal.

Well, let me rephrase that. France is just a beacon of good music in general, as you couldn’t call the latter of the above artists metal anymore. Alcest has morphed into a depressive rock/shoegaze band over the years, and this definitely shows in the new single “Autre Temps” (which translates to “Another Time”). The track is quite beautiful and moving, and the artful video’s aesthetics and surprisingly high quality is just as well. You can see that above, as if you somehow didn’t already notice.

If you so desire, the “Autre Temps” single is available now. Les Voyages De L’Âme is due out January 6th on Prophecy Productions.
