All metal has melody, just because it’s not so in your face with a brutal death/tech death band or whatever doesn’t mean it’s not there. If you want something obvious there’s always all the Slaughter of the Soul and N*FLAYMZ rip offs to indulge in. Or Dagon, that’s who I’d suggest personally. Only melodic death band I care about in the slightest.

Dude, I feel the same. All. The. Time. I try to have a conversation about metal with anybody in my school but once I break out anything from Opeth to Cannibal Corpse to Tool, I immediately get blown off. Nobody understands the talent that truly goes into being a metal artist. It’s definitely more difficult than being a part of Flyleaf. Although, the do achieve some nice melodies every now and then, which is something that I wish more metal bands picked up on.

That sounds like an awful teacher. God I hate Flyleaf. Show her some fucking real death metal, or at least real christian death metal.

She was in a heavy band called Cerebral Onslaught, which can be heard on myspace. I didn’t link to it from the page just in case it got back to her that I wrote this. She described it as death metal, but it’s really just power metal. It would be the greatest power metal ever if she had more power to her voice. It’s like she was using her choir voice.

But regardless, any idiot should know the difference between hard rock that borders on edgy pop rock and death metal. But I’ll shoot her an email with suggestions for heavier progressive stuff maybe.

Heh… entertaining stuff.

And she may think they’re death metal, but if she’s a music appreciation teacher, it makes sense that she’d be more into progressive metal and less into the heavier stuff. She probably doesn’t know any better. Maybe you should educate her with some Opeth and the like.
