Archive for June, 2009

This is one of the albums I’m totally stoked for this year, as if you couldn’t guess by how I cover every move Born Of Osiris make.

Here’s the tracklist to A Higher Place, which comes out July 7th on Sumerian Records:

1. Rebirth
2. Elimination
3. The Accountable
4. Now Arise
5. Live Like I’m Real
6. Starved
7. Exist
8. Put To Rest
9. A Descent
10. A Higher Place
11. An Ascent
12. Thrive
13. Faces Of Death

Sounds pretty rad to me. After the jump, listen to the track “Now Arise” and a meh-quality live bootleg of “The Accountable” played at Summer Slaughter.

Feast your ears on this fresh death metal gem dug up by pirates online somewhere. Obituary‘s new album Darkest Day is out there right now somewhere. Do a blog search to find it or something.

The album hits stores on June 30, 2009 through Candlelight Records.

Get a taste of the album with “Blood To Give” after the jump via a YouTube video.

Manowar is a band who has been known to display some of the most epic (and corny) imagery in metal. So imagine how underwhelmed and dissapointed I was when I came across their new album artwork:

No bulging biceps anywhere. No ANYTHING.

No bulging biceps anywhere. No ANYTHING.

I haven’t seen them in a while. Maybe they’re getting old and less manly? I don’t know and I don’t rightly care enough to look. Their new album, “Hammer Of The Gods”, which is the first installment of “The Asgard Saga”, the band’s unique multimedia fantasy adventure with best-selling author Wolfgang Hohlbein, is tentatively due this fall. Sounds like it has potential to be a metal equivalent to a Tolkein-esque adventure!

This Thunder In The Sky EP will precede the full length. I hope the full album art will feature a pop out fist to crush faces with.

Italian melodic death metal band Disarmonia Mundi have uploaded a new song called “Across The Burning Surface” from their upcoming EP “The Restless Memoirs” on their MySpace page. Pretty much your typical modern melodic death song in the vein of In Flames, but it’s still a highly enjoyable song with great melody.

A remastered version of their first album Nebularium and The Restless Memoirs EP will be available June 26th on Coroner Records.

Below is their video for “Celestial Furnace” from their last album Mind Tricks, which featured Soilwork’s Bjorn “Speed” Strid.

FAITH NO MORE WERE FUCKING AMAZING

Where to start?

Well, Mike’s suit was sexy as hell. If I’d ever go gay, it would be for this man:

I mean Mike Patton, not the Jonathan Coulton looking guy in the back. Although JoCo is rad too...

Setlist? Excuse the lame and obvious pun, but it was Epic.

01. Reunited (Peaches & Herb cover)
02. The Real Thing
03. From Out Of Nowhere
04. Land Of Sunshine
05. Caffeine
06. Evidence
07. POKERFACE (Lade Gaga Cover?!?!?!)/Chinese Arithmetic
08. Surprise! You’re Dead!
09. Easy
10. Last Cup Of Sorrow
11. Midlife Crisis
12. Introduce Yourself
13. The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies
14. Take This Bottle

It was a spectacular show. Download was awesome for streaming it. If you missed it, expect it to be on youtube or somewhere soon. I hope and pray that they make it over here to USA.

Think again, bucko.

Faith No More s entire performance at Download Festival will be webcast live on DownloadFestival.co.uk. Log on from 9:00 p.m (should be about 4 PM for us Americans) Friday, June 12 to see the band play its first festival show since reuniting earlier in the year. You can watch FNM from the comfort of your computer chair. I shouldn’t have to tell you how rad this is.

Yesterday, FNM played their first show on the reunion tour at Brixton Academy in London. Here was the set list in all it’s glory:

Well, it looks like I wont make it to Summer Slaughter tomorrow. My ride fell through, so I’m stuck here.

If you can make it to the most badass tour of the summer, enjoy it enough for the both of us. If anyone out there can get me a decent quality video of Born of Osiris’ set, I will be your best friend.

If you’re within a decent distance of a show and aren’t going, what the hell is wrong with you? GO GET TICKETS.

This is “Broken Halo” from this year’s Odd Senses. Apparently I’ve been under a rock.

In other Psyopus news, drummer Jason Bauers is now accepting private students for drum set and percussion instruction. Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to, metal, funk, jazz, fusion, concert percussion, snare drum technique, and keyboard percussion. So whether you are looking to develop speed, technical knowledge, build you snare chops, or learn four mallet marimba solos, you will find help here. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

If interested, contact Jason at jason.bauers.lessons@gmail.com for details.

I wish I loved in New York so I could hit this up. If you’re in the area DO THIS.

Mordechai Von Renvaktar (Or Jonas Renvaktar, if your head isnt stuck up your ass) of Swedish technical death metal outfit Spawn of Possession, has left the band and issued this following statement:

“I have been forced to leave my duties in Spawn of Posession to fully concentrate on the ongoing war against the sun-worshippers and to intensify my fight for eternal winter together with my brothers in Istapp. The war is expanding and I’m needed for the battle same as you. Our horde grows stronger by the minute and you all have to choose side. You are with us or you are not at all.”

I’m reading this and thinking, “this guy can’t be serious.” How lame is this? It’s like everyone in Europe is trying to make metal out to be this super serious and epic thing. Oh, those silly Swedes.

I hope their next vocalist delivers.

Anything new that comes from the DEP camp is postworthy. Early this morning, DEP posted this on their myspace blog:

We start tour today. It’s five thirty in the morning. Everyone is asleep, except for me, all so that you could all get your new video first thing in the morning. We’ll keep ‘em comin’. Enjoy.

In the video, you can see rehearsal footage of “Destro’s Secret”, the inside of Liam’s fridge, an infectious groovy beat, and confirmation of the new album title, Option Paralysis.  Video is below, but you can clearly see that. I shouldn’t have to tell you these things.

He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time… He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…He calls me all the time…
