Archive for June, 2009

Sorry the updates have been few and far between. I’ve been a little busy lately.

And by busy, I mean playing World Of Warcraft.

I got some time for my account. And before you ask, I’m with the Horde. Blood Elf Hunter. Going Alliance is unacceptable, especially for a guy who posts on a blog mostly about the metal.

So while I was kicking some nerdy ass, here’s what I missed:

Shadows Fall’s Retribution Artwork

The album comes out September 15th.

I’ve got nothing else to add.

New Footage of Devin Townsend Tracking Addicted

Yay, new music snippets!

Devin is always rad and never fails to impress.

New Megadeth Song Isn’t Boring | New Album Title

Megadeth released the song “Headcrusher”, and it’s better than what I expected of the ‘deth. It shreds. You too can listen to “Headcrusher” by calling 866.597.6342.

Why anyone would debut a song via phone this day in age is beyond me. Maybe to prevent early rips or leaks? The quality is obviously pretty low, you’re listening to it over the phone.

Headcrusher will appear on their upcoming album Endgame. It will be out some time in September on Roadrunner Records.

Deftones Delay Eros. FFFUUU-

But it totally has nothing to do with bassist Chi being in a coma.

“The songs recorded for ‘Eros’ are very special to us as they are the latest with Chi (and we certainly hope not the last); they have history and significant meaning to us. However, as we neared completion on ‘Eros’, we realized that this record doesn’t best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians. And although those songs will see the light of day at some point, we collectively made the decision that we needed to take a new approach, and with Chi‘s condition heavy on our minds while doing so. We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically. Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music, and deliver to our fans what you rightly deserve: the best DEFTONES record that we can make.

“The decision to hold off on releasing ‘Eros’ has no connection with Chi‘s condition or anything associated. This was, and is, purely a creative decision by the band to write, record, and deliver an amazing product. As a result we feel like this is the best record we’ve ever written. And although Chi is not playing bass with us, his presence is dramatically felt in our hearts and on our minds every day when we step into that studio, and you will feel it in the music.”

Well shit.

At any rate, I hope Chi makes a full recovery. From what I’ve read, he’s improving, so that’s good.

Behemoth Debut New Song With Obvious Title

New Behemoth track Ov Fire And The Void can be listened to over at their myspace. Upon listening, I shrug my shoulders and I go back to playing WoW.

Chevelle released their new single “Jars” today. While not metal, they’re top notch hard rock. Sure as hell beats the other radio rock out there.

I get to see Chevelle live next month and I’m pretty stoked.

Listen to the song below. The album Sci-Fi Crimes comes out September 8.

We have another metal leak from an album that drops July 7th, and it’s Poison The Well‘s The Tropic Rot. So, that makes PTW and Job For A Cowboy out there now, but due out on the 7th. You know what else comes out on the 7th? Born of Osiris‘ album A Higher Place.

I sure hope that one’s next.

After the break, a sample from the PTW album.

This Tour Is Perfect

In Flames, Between The Buried And Me, The Faceless, and 3 Inches Of Blood will be touring the United States this fall. The lineup screams of win and kickass. I’ve seen In Flames live and thoroughly enjoyed the show. I have BTBAM’s Colors_Live DVD and that’s a pretty rad show. The Faceless perform perfectly, but according to Mitch they just kinda stand there. I’m not a fan of 3 Inches Of Blood, but they’d be fun to see for sure.

Only one date has been announced so far, and that’s 9/21 San Francisco, CA @ The Regency Ballroom.

If they come close enough to where I will live, I’d sell my left testicle to get there. The tour doesn’t have an official name as far as I know, but I’m dubbing it Radfest ’09.

Famous Korean pop group, Girl’s Generation (also known as SNSD, or SoShi) are back with a new image for an upcoming mini-album titled Genie. The single is called “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)”

소녀시대

“소원을 말해봐 (Genie)”

in Hangul. As seen above, the visual theme is a sailor outfit. The teaser for the hit aired not to long ago. But, the whole song can be heard here: The song features a new eurobeat kind of heavy synth backing but still their lovable singing. Why am I posting this on a metal site you ask? Because it is metal. The most adorable females in the world are always metal. Not to mention Jimmy’s repeat not metal posts. I don’t need to explain myself to you faggots. Anyway, they have also released individual photos of the sailor theme.

Batten down the hatches. Metalcore band Darkest Hour‘s new album The Eternal Return leaked.

Darkest Hour – No God

There are two meanings behind that headline. Killswitch Engage have indeed created another good metalcore album. But here’s the thing; They do very little to stray from the formula that created all of their other albums. There is a slight change in sound, but that’s probably because Brendon O’Brien stepping in to help handle production instead of guitarist Adam D. taking the duty on by himself. Other than that slight sonic difference, it’s really your typical Killswitch record with the pop formula of intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus or any similar variation on that. Imagine, if you will, as Killswitch Engage being like an expansion pack instead of a sequel and you’ll get a rough idea of what to expect. On the Howard Jones fronted KsE spectrum, I’d almost put it above The End Of Heartache. But to do that, you kinda have to pretend for a second that they didn’t write that album five years ago.

Another difference I can point out is that there’s actually a guitar solo in the opening track “Never Again”. I was pleasantly surprised when it popped up. However, that’s the only one on the album and it being featured on the opening track gave me a false hope of there being more in store. I also don’t recall hearing any backup vocals from Adam D.

I’m normally a guy who loves some sort of progression in sound. I’ve got a touch of the ADD and I get distracted easily, so I can’t really listen to the same album being made several times over without getting bored. But that didn’t happen all that much during this album like I expected. There are melodies and hooks throughout that keep you interested. Speaking of hooks, let’s be honest with ourselves. With all intents and purposes, Killswitch Engage are making catchy pop-metal. This isn’t a bad thing. There’s nothing wrong with putting away the brutal and technical shit for a second and listening to something with soaring melodic choruses and a heartfelt message.

Sounds like it’s going to be epic and melodic. Doesn’t sound like Nickleback at all. YAY!

Addicted is the follow up to Ki in The Devin Townsend Project. It will be out at some point this year.
